This! I've tried this as well and it works great! 40/60 Coolant/Water ratio seems to work best.

Probably what I would use as well in a custom loop. The problem I see most is when dyes and other ingredients are introduced it leads to particulates/sludge/residue over time. If you just have to have color then it means extra maintenance.

Water has probably the highest specific heat capacity of all common liquids, twice as high as oil. It is the best liquid for cooling.

I have no idea what are you all talking about.

I think brake fluids are what they are (for example differences between DOT3 and 4) because they can work in very high temperature and pressure. I do not think that 4 would be any better than 3 in conditions of PC cooling.
I wouldn’t go to anything else than a coolant/water solution.

You have to admit though the allure of using a fluid that theoretically would never need servicing or replacement.

I'm not a big fan of dyes that have particulate suspension. If it's not a molecular dye, it doesn't go into the fluids I use.

True! That would be a wonderful quality.

From what I've heard 70 distilled / 30 antifreeze mixture is good.

Now let's see...what color dye would I have to mix with green anti-freeze to get a orange color?

Yes! Put some brake fluid in it and tell us the results! :toast:

None. Use Orange coolant.

I'm kind of leary of the stuff. I recall years ago that some of it turned to a crystalline state if air got to it. I've seen it and it was a nasty mess. Was it DexCool or something to that effect?

I've never seen that personally and let's be fair, we're talking about automotive uses generally where that might occur. In a PC cooling loop, that just won't happen, not enough heat. Simply diluting it down a bit more will be enough to prevent it. 30/70 should be enough, but 20/80 would be fine too. don't go below 20/80 though as you will start to lose the benefits of the coolant properties.

It wasn't a heat related problem...it was air that caused the reaction. I hear the problem was solved many years ago, but I can't get that image out of my head lol. I went so far as to flush the system in my 2004 Chevy truck and replaced it with green even though it had probably already been solved long before then. Thinking this arose in the mid to late 90's.

So, you have tested DOT 4 or know someone who has? If not, then this particular question has likely not been answered over the last two decades. Seems the "silliness" part comes in when the robots take over and experimentation is deemed unacceptable.
Everyone who starts out thinks they're a genius with a fluid no ones ever... nevermind the genius of using a corrosive fluid.

First point, DOT4 is NOT corrosive by design. It becomes that way after use in a high temp system(like automotive braking systems), and if that is happening you need to flush your system more often. But it doesn't start out that way from the bottle. Using it in a custom loop would very likely be harmless. Whether or not it's effective is the unknown.

Second, YOU have no place using the term "genius" in a derogatory manner at ANYONE else...

Oh dear here we go deeper... DOT4 still eats paint. All DOT fluids have additives to prevent corrosion but those will eventually break down except. Not addressing silicone based fluid. But again, this is stupid to debate.

In other words, you have no clue what it is you are talking about and no personal experience with it and yet come to conclusions...got it.

Why are you guys talking about brake fluids? (worried voice)

Air coolers are not meant to weight 1.5 kilos! Heavier = worse, not better.
