SOF2 Multiplayer. Playing on these servers will really improve your FPS skills.

STALKER

FarCry

Hitman

FEAR

HL2

What is great about Hitman, FarCry and STALKER is they are all "free to chose your route", whereas HL2 is just "tunnels" even if in the open air... there is only one scripted way to go through the map. Both FEAR and HL2 are great... but when you play them... it reminds you of MOH and COD maps where it looks open... or you think you have choices, but actually, you dont have any choice how you can pass through from one "area" to another. You are basically forced down one path. The reason for map corridors is mapping, scripted enemy "spawn" and poor AI. I do hate that.

Completely agree on the corridors crap . . . except, the AI in FEAR is actually really good - the only game I've ever played where the AI game me as much of a challenge was Thief. TBH, there are too many FPS that rely solely on scripting, AI hordes and ambushing for a challenge. I prefer FPSes that make you stop and think about what you intend to do, instead of blazing through an area. One of the things I loved about FEAR - if you take your time, you can usually get behind a couple of AI unspotted and gain the surprise because the AI is "constantly aware"

It's a shame, though, such great AI coding in FEAR, and it's limited mostly to corridors and ambushes :shadedshu Although, considering Monolith is working solely on FEAR2, I have high hopes for that one . . . from early reviews I've read, they've done a great job of taking the suggestions and comments of FEAR fans to heart.

Again, though, as much as I recommend Doom3 - be warned, even on 'easy' it's a PITA at times - although the scripting and AI are highly predictable.

The AI in COD 1 was great for its time FACT. Corridors are great fun example HALF LIFE 1.
Okay whoever keeps saying Fear is good is an idiot really its just the same crap over and over again and OH LOOK WE CAN SLOW TIME boring boring boring gimmick. Almost forgot the enemies were dumbass and annoying so were the weapons. It had good graphics but was the Crysis of the day punishing hardware, it wasnt even that Fear was the best looking game out coz hardware that could run other games at similar level of detail would buckle under FEAR!!!!!!!

far cry didnt give much choice either, it was an illusion 99% of the time.

Ummm . . . from my recolection, when FEAR was released back in 05, it broke ground, as much as Doom3 did the year prior.

It's true the repeating graphics and situations grew tiresome towards the end of the game, but did it feel that way when one first sat down to play it? And yes, the two expansion packs didn't really offer much more than the original did, either.

As to the AI, though, I completely disagree with your statement. Sure the weapons were nothing different than what could be found in other games over the last decade - but the AI would react to the player, and the palyers actions . . . plus, the AI grew increasing more difficult as you moved further into the game. Compared to the AI of other releases up to that point, FEAR proved to be a challenge as you had to re-think your ways of doing things, and as soon as you thought you had the AI's reactions figured out, something new got thrown into the mix.

Yeah, FEAR is completely dated at this point, both the AI and the graphics, but when you look at it from how the game was when it was released instead of looking back 2.5 years, it does stand out.
