I have a ABIT NF7-M MOBO and ive recently got a AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton CPU to replace my 2000+.

Now i have a problem with the machine booting  . The temp in the BIOS is around 42-44. i have used the auto settings, fail-safe and ones i have set myself.

The pc make an alarm sound like as if the heat alarm would sound  . i know is processor is compatable with my MOBO, but its just worrying that this alarm sounds and my pc just stops.

p.s. windows wont load so i cant test anything in there....all ideas welcome

it might sound stupid this but i once did it.. the xp heatsink has a recess in the bottom to clear the cpu locking mechamism.. i u fit it the wrong way round it rides slightly of the cpu core and dosnt cool it properly..

i fried my barton cpu doing it.. it took about six bleeps and shut downs before i twigged something was really wrong and investigated..

the cpu wouldnt boot after that.. it wasnt entirely dead just kinda half dead.. he he he

by slowing it down from its default roughly 2.2 gig speed to 1.8 gig it worked perfectly so as i said i didnt totally kill it.. just kinda damaged the poor thing.. he he

u probably havnt done such a "stupid" trick.. but its worth a mention..

my thermtake heat sink has some silly clamp that only allow the heat sink to be installed the correct way round. its more likely the CMOS, hopefully. so a gud off period with battery out and jumper in the reset and all power plugs unpluged may help me, but thanks for the idea please keep them coming please.... i may of done something just stupid yet still

How many beeps does it make?

It could be quite a few things. RAM, video card, hard drive plugged up wrong, etc.

Try reseating those. If possible, try a different video card, ram, etc.

Also check and make sure your PSU cables are all plugged up correctly(sometimes they get halfway pulled out, or loose).

One more thing, does your motherboard have a FSB Jumper pin? It might be set incorrectly if so.

only one jumper on the board and that is the CMOS reset one. everything else is bios corrected. it does not make beeps, its a totally different sound, its like an house/car alarm (the best discription i can give you sorry.) could of be a half put in power connect tho. gud advice fella, cheers
