How bad of an issue is GPU sagging and should we really spend on products like support struts?

So I recently built a new pc and moved from a 3060ti to a 4070 and I started getting recommended videos on you tube with relations to GPU sagging and its been only about a month since I built this system and i'm worried about sagging, my gpu does not have much play to it but being my OCD self I keep staring at the GPU worried. Is this sagging and is sagging as bad as they say?

well the PCB is barely 176 mm long, how could it possibly sag. besides jayz2c found out that when the heat sink is properly supported by the io shiled, there is no sag. this looks to be the case.

They have said this model sags, I dont know if it applies to my build. I dont know what sagging is properly xD, My GPU shakes a tad bit, like only very little.

If you're not moving your PC around its fine, also I'm not seeing much problematic on your pic. GPU is nice and straight.

I strongly recommend LEGO blocks to create the perfect anti sag construction. You can even pick your favorite color scheme :) If you're settling on that solution, use a bit of glue to fixate the stack of blocks to the case, rock solid :toast:

Honestly its a non issue. But moving PCs around with north of 1 Kg of GPU hanging off a single screw and a PCI slot isn't smart.

Sag simply is the GPU hanging from the slot, and its weight warping the GPU's shape.

Don't watch Youtube (recommendations..), or socials. Its 99% bullshit you never needed to know ;) The feed they offer is built to line corporate pockets, nothing else.

Thank you soo much, I have to admit, I bought a GPU support stick for $4 dollars and i'm not proud of my self, delivery on the 20th of NOV, I was perplexed seeing the vids and reading google brain wash, sigh..

I know topic has been beaten to death, but this thread comes right as I was ready to pull the trigger on one of these for 5 EUR from Aliexpress. As I recently got my first 3-slot GPU. Good thing I haven't done it yet. I might go the Lego-route or a syringe-route.

My Gpu is very heavy with the water block on it, so in certain circumstances, i think a support is very needed.

I have a huge 3-slot card that weighs multiple kilos and it does not need support. It's really straight.

It's just an aesthetic thing, it doesn't really matter. Strangely enough I have a card with a waterblock on it that's very heavy and it doesn't really sag at all.

GPU sag ... it a common issue with GPU's, just go watch the video's on NorthWestRepair - YouTube channel.

- Part 1

- Part 2

There are others there.

If you don't want a broken GPU make sure it's supported with the support bracket / brace that came with it or find one.

Also, pre-built systems with heavy GPU's get damaged in transit to your door if someone drops it.

Mine probably doesn't but i put one under it anyway.

Mine weighs 1.8 kilos for the block+the backplate+the bare card and pci backplate.

the issue is that your PCB flexes while the components on it (especially memory) don't.
thermal cycles, a bowed PCB and in a month to a couple years you have ripped of pads on your memory.

i always install the GPU, let it rest on a GPU stand and then screw it in to have zero weight pulling on the PCB.

The actual GPU PCB and slot must be pretty strong, but i guess the screws holding the PCI plate take a lot of force off it.

You still need a laser level to check regularly. i use bosh pcl10 for that. I mean you wouldn't notice it until it's too late and the card breaks at the slot.
When I installed my GPU (4070) I sharpened a pencil to about 2mm short of the space between the bottom of my case and the GPU, in the 4 months I have had the GPU I have checked it 4 or 5 times, the card still does not touch the pencil when I place it underneath so I am #NoSagHappy :D

My EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 sagged, but not enough to be a concern. Probably due to its metal backplate. My friends EVGA 1070 with no backplate however sagged ALOT despite it being a shorter card.

My new 3080 Ti FE is much smaller than the 1080 Ti was and does not sag at all. The smaller size and weight plays a part in that but also Nvidia's almost unibody cooler design that is also tied in to the PCIe bracket. I could probably try to bend the thing with my hands and it wouldn't budge

If I happen to ever get a huge card that isn't an Nvidia FE I'll give it some help with some LEGO bricks stacked up to keep it straight

I would put in a support. If you want to do it for cheap get a used paper towel roll or a pencil and cut it to size and use that as a support. Maybe paint it a color to match your case too.

Is it a Gigabyte 4070?

I would put a strut unless I could lower gravity in my home.
