hi guys thanks for all the input and suggestions. i love this place because all you have to do is say "power supply" and people get very excited and start posting helpful stuff. i've never seen so much enthusiasm over electricity!

anyway all the responses helped us out so when i got my weekly newegg spam today in my inbox i found a coupon for this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...IGNEFL080508-_-PowerSupplies-_-L0C-_-17341010

free shipping and with newegg promo code EMCAJAFBE $11 more off the already on sale price. add in the rebate and this is costing my cousin just $39. he says he can live with that so now i just have to wait for it to arrive in a day or two and install it. he can watch and maybe learn something. idk what its just a swap out but we'll see.

oh and yeah its fine for the Dell Ispiron case. checked it all out. it fits and has just the standard mobo connector / pins and stuff.

word is pretty solid on this PSU so i think it'll do well. here is a review. for those who like this stuff you should love this. this is the conclusion, but its ten pages long. if you go back they take this sucker apart top to bottom:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/451/10

anyway thanks all once again and here is a newegg promo code for an evga 8800GS that makes it $63 dollars after rebate and $93 before (still a good deal)

EMCAJAFAD

and also one for an evga 8800GT EMCAJAFAE

$119 after rebate. all have free shipping

i don't think it needs that much power. it might be just what they put on there for safety precaution or somthing like that

I doubt that, i had a friend kill his gfx card on a 400 Watt PSu. granted it was a crappy psu brand, but i think it was 20 or 22a on the 12v, it was also a multi rail psu i might add.

The requirements are way too high. I ran a 8800GT and a 4ghz E7200 fine on 18a.

yeah i know he doesn't need it but its ordered so there it is. i didn't exactly tell him to get it. he just asked me if it would work and if it was a good deal. i said yeah and that was it pretty much

i also know power requirements are overstated much of the time. my own set up used a 300w with 18 amps on a single 12v rail and powered my overclocked 8800GS and AMD 5600+ without complaint. wayyyy under the so called requirements. but he feels good about having more power i guess for the future. although it seems power requirements have actually gone down for vid cards if i've read some articles correctly

anyway as long as it works at this point. see no reason why it wouldn't

well the power supply came, i popped it in, and all went well. works fine

on another note (and related to the post above) i bought this for my second machine that i'm going to throw an 8800GS into:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007

great deal, i think. all i need. i say related to the above post because zithe says he doesn't know how the Seasonic could be better / more reliable then an Antec. but in my research i found that Seasonic actually is the maker of some Antec PS's. including the one i just bought, unless its a "D" (Delta).

just check the specs for yourself and compare them to the above posted Antec

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151040

so similar....right down to the smaller fan size. most things besides the cabling is EXACT. including price.

can't just be a coincidence, right?
