Long story, short -

H81M-E Board only supports 1333Mhz Speeds.

XMP timings on 2400 Gskill tridents is messed up because of a ropey bios

I need smooth 1333Mhz timings and that includes secondary as well. For some reason the board uses the same secondary regardless of XMP, auto settings.

This is causing issues in games where I will get intermittent stutter. If I play around with memory timings (I have no clue) then it can improve or worsen the said stutter so I know it is the issue.

Plan on getting a Z97 board when I can afford a decent one but would like to at least get some good use out of this board first.

Help would be massively appreciated as I'm tearing my hair out :)

If I set XMP the secondary timings are wrong. If I leave auto and set frequency to 1333 with no xmp profile it will set 9 9 9 24 1t with the same secondary timings it gives with XMP profiles. Either way somethings off and it causes stutter. Like rubberbanding.

The XMP timings are the smoothest but it's still there and the secondary timings are messed up.

cpuz doesn't give secondary timings unfortunately.

AIDA does but it won't boot when I input them manually. Agggghhhhhhhh lol

Edit - yes Earthdogs is correct, ideally I want CL 9 timings or below please.

I think he is looking for MUCH tighter timings for a speed that low...

Right. Missed that completely :D Typical for 1333 should be 8-8-8-25-33

Hilux could you do me a massive favor.

Could you find out what your secondary timings are set at and what voltage you are running.

Do you have a smooth experience in games?

Many thanks

Edit - TBH I believe it's secondary timings that are creating the issues so it's them that I'm more in need of in relation to whatever primary timings I'm setting.

Dont use xmp. Look at a kit of Gskill trident 1333/ripjaws and set it based upon that. Check voltages between kits though.

I think secondary timings are left alone in most cases. SPD itself is pretty good at finding default-what works best. If im not mistaken most ram drops to 1333 for compatibility to get it powered up...

But how can it be right if all of the secondary timings on auto are the same regardless of what primary timings are input.

XMP CL 10
Auto 1333
Manually entered

All of them give the same secondary timings with varying stutter. It's a wonky bios on a cheap board that supports this processor.

I'm gonna check voltages as well because something's not right.

on a Pentium chip its not gonna matter what the timings even if you could get 9 9 9 cl9 its not really gonna give you any more perform ace

It's not performance I'm after, its correct timings for a smooth experience.

EDIT - For example, go and change your secondary timings to any random numbers you can think of. Go and play a game.....any change in the smoothness?

The board supports DDR3-1600 Memory.
Do you have the latest BIOS installed? There are 20 of them now with the latest being 2105 that improves stability.

HERE

TBO, Your post makes me a little nervous because I'm building with that CPU and an ASUS H81I-Plus/CSM board soon. But I have 8GB of DDR3-1600MHz. Patriot Viper RAM for it.

The board does support 1600, just not on this pentium. The highest it will go is 1400 with the very latest bios that I have flashed but the timings stay exactly the same.

MEH, no matter what timings I find somethings not right. Gonna have to wait a month before I can get a decent Z97 board which can just apply CORRECT XMP timings.

EDIT - Do voltages look ok?

timings have no impact on "smoothness"
that Pentium supports 1333 and THATS it it doesn't matter what the board is

OMG, read the thread again. I understand totally that it only supports 1333.

And I'm sorry but timings do affect smoothness, once again, go and change your secondary timings to a set of random numbers and then try a game. Because I have tangible evidence right in front of me that shows me the exact opposite of your ramblings.

EDIT - The CPU also has no issues running memory up to 2400 on the right board if the IMC can take it just like any other haswell. This "BUDGET' board only has 1333 or 1400 Max with the latest bios.

Because the secondary timings would only change on speed changes, not.timing changes.

I really think you are chasing a magic unicorn...Get a better board. ;)

When spd is used initially it will give the base of the ram normally. There is no need to adjust any timings beyond the first 4.

the op is runing a Pentium K and a 650TI now I am sorry but at that level of cpu/gpu performace 2133 ram ins't gonna do much he would be better served by getting new GPU at the least

For the proper timings that you need, try the memory maker's forums. I have had the guy at Crucial help me out in the past.
Maybe there is a guy on a forum for your RAM that can help you with it.

secondary timings should not have any noticeable impact on anything BUT if you really think it matters ask cadaveca hes the memory-timing guru

Firstly OneMoar, I'll have a bench off with you in any game that doesn't utilize a quad core and wipe the floor with you. FPS performance @1080P with any game that doesn't require a true quad has been great.

Secondly, the timings did not affect fps PERFORMANCE at all they were causing intermittent stutter which I stated more than once. I also stated that UNLIKE normal boards it was setting them incorrectly, hence it had the negative affect.

Finally, I have sorted the timings myself with ALOT of trial and error resulting in (would you believe it) smooth, stutter free gameplay. CL 7 @ 1.5V with my own secondary timings.

BTW, you certainly live up to your sig. Oh, apart from the fact you didn't try to help one bit.

@EarthDog - Hey, I guess I found my unicorn lol. A Z97 board is next on my "To Buy" list though, followed by a nice 4790K, Probably just wait until Black Friday as this rig is now running super smooth.

Thank you to those people who did try to offer help, I understand it was an unusual circumstance.

Glad it's working now. This is the new G3258 chip, right?

How is it, now that it's sorted? I really need to get off of my ass and build mine.
