I need some help with some hardware.

Hi every one I just got a Linsys wireless G expander and well I need help making it work.
I tried to DL the Drivers and every thing maybe you have stuff that might work. When I plug it in, I can see that it has boosted the network connection but when I try to connect it will not. It errors out. Can not connect. WRE54G is the model no. Please help.

That thing requires some config. Just plugging it in does not connect it to your SSID/network etc. Is accessible either through some Linksys software or a browser perhaps. Find the product page on linksys.com and go from there.

I tried I haven't been able to figure it out. this is why I posted here. If I could figure it out I would not have posted my problem.

Threre are 3 different drivers for same device based on hardware version. It says "Please ensure you select the correct hardware version as not all downloads are compatible with your device."

You need to know is it hardware ver. 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0

Does the device have a RJ45 port? If it does then you can probably set it up that way. Do you have the documentation on the device?

No software just uses the web browser..

Hey Trix, well it been some time i messed with mine ( V3 ) but as far as i remember you have to use the same gateway and add a SSID.

There is a RJ-45 port on the top of it plug that in ad then to the comp then use the browser to excess the interface using 192.168.1.1 and admin \ admin i believe are the defaults.

And yes it's a pain in the butt..

It sounds like you need to configure it through an Ethernet port for encrypted Wi-Fi networks. It sounds like it can auto-connect to insecure networks though, but don't take my word on that one.

Nice, i forgot it had a different IP for it ( 192.168.1.240 ).

That is just it I do not know this and have no way of finding out (Unless some one helps me). So I know I got the wrong software to begin with.

I do not see any ports or plugs on the device at all other than the electric cord.

Again all this is going to be slow going for me. I am going to try every thing till I get this thing working for sure. It really is cool. As it is I can see every network and the ones that the device is boosting as well. It will boost the closest signals so I know it is working just getting my computer to talk to it now that is the hard part. :cry:

The RJ-45 port is on the top of the unit behind a little door.

Yeah i got mine years ago for $20 and it was a pain i the ass to get working right..

Can you get it work with no security ?.. If you can just add the WPA key after it's all setup and remember copy and paste is your friend hehe...

So far nothing will work. It just maybe that it is so old that it will not work or it just sucks and I need a better one.

I will try all this some other time. I just got out of the hospital, Once again my ankle folded up on me and I have a 3 way sprain and I may also have a torn ligament, Thank you all I will let you know if I get it going.
