any way to ID an apple macbook with a dead battery and no charger?

my serial starts with a W and the ones on there before 08 start with a M, and it doesn't show the 08 and up serials

You'll have to call them then. A customer support rep can probably access the information if it's not available online. I'm assuming you want to buy a new charger and/or battery. Does Apple not put a model number by the serial number? That's all you should need.
