If your replacing the full rig then looking out for a few deals might be worth wile.

this is a pretty good deal.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...pset/atxformfactor/z87-g45-gaming-bundle.html

Add a CPU.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...encorei3i5andi71150socket/bx80646i54670k.html

and some ram

http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...ddr3-pc3-128001600mhz/f3-12800cl9d-8gbxl.html

and you have the basis for a decent machine for about £400.

Also make sure you have a SATA optical drive as intel no longer support IDE.
All you them need to do is save for a PSU and GPU.

Yeah true, and 5850 CF is beastly even for today's standards! I'm pretty sure future games like battlefield 4 will still run smooth on this rig with that kind of resolution ^_^

If you're itching to upgrade still. I'd move to either a i5 Ivy Bridge or a AMD Piledriver FX and switch to DDR3. Then keep your 5870 for another year or so, I was looking on Ebay and saw a few used 5870 for £80 making a cheap CF solution. Considering a new 6870 is £130 and slower its a good deal.

yeah x4 is fine but you need to move ddr3 and change the board of course
and spend the rest on vga card, storage media and better cooling maybe

i see why he said no good offer ... 130£ for a 6870 ... nice joke i find them at 80-100chf max wich make 68.91£ at max

80£ for a 5870 is what i paid for a Zotac GTX480 AMP! 1.5gb (not totaly right since it was 80chf : 55.13£) i even paid less than 130£ for my actual HD7870 2gb.

also i have to sell a PSU 650w modular (chieftec i know bad rep but she was doing fine xD i ordered in double ) and the GTX480 mentioned above but international delivery tend to screw me :D (not mentioning the fact that i dont have a paypal account or bank account just post IBAN for international)

indeed a 5870 CF would be good (if we except micro stuttering and some game who doesnt handle CF/SLI) a 5870 is only 14% slower than a 480 AMP! and way less tdp

also the X4 965 is fine indeed just the Mobo and ram is a little off no need to go piledriver for that a good 890FX second hand mobo and 8gb would do the trick or as i have in my 2nd rig a 970 new or second hand, for the mobo
my Crosshair i got it for 100chf and the 970 for 75chf both second hand (but new with warranty on it, a little less for the CHIVF eh, its a oldie but goodie)

You are in a different country. In the UK the 6870 is still £130 for new and it's no faster than the 5870.
PowerColor HD 6870 PCS+ 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Dual Mi...

Granted a new 7850 is in the £130-150 area but its only 10-20% faster than the 5870 he already has. That is a lot of money for a small gain. He could drop only £80 on a second hand 5870 and again 10-100% performance boost in CF.

The GTX 480 cant really be found new in the UK. Even on Ebay there is nothing domestically. Either way the GTX 480 is on the same level as the 7850, which is between 10-20% above a single 5870. Neither card could challenge a 5870 CF in any domain.

I've got 5850 CF, never experienced micro stutter. Anyways. The new ATI beta drivers fix any CF related stutter. :)

i know im not in UK and so UK reseller are just off the mind when it come to pricing (compared to switzerland ;) ) also here in switzerland the "factory" new card are quite same price (10-15% close) but its the second hand reseller who have a better brain it seems ...

also CF 5870 is a real good idea and yes microstutter and other joyfull things is more for the 7xxx serie :D

and if i would sell the 480 to a UK resident i think i would make 70LS for it (port inclued) but droping a extra 10LS (damned i dont have the UK monetary signe on that keyboard DAMN YOU US-Eng layout!) for a 5870 and going CF is a good idea (except on the TDP but the 480 was a monster at the time being ... and the Zotac where the most efficient )
