Ok so I've been following TPU for a while now and so i finally decided to sign up. So, here is my first custom made system.

Im coming from a Dell Dimension 9100

HDD: WD 250 GB
Gfx card: AtiX600 (I updated to a xfx 9800GT)
Mem: 1 GB mem (updated to 2 GB corsair ddr2)
CPU: Intel duo 840 @3.2

This computer that I have will go to my little bro as his pc went dead. He only needs it to do homework or look up definitions  (for now)

______________________________________________________________________

Below is my comp. I do have a budget at 1,000 but Im able to go 1,500 ish or so. I dont need a gfx card, sound card or a cd drive cause Im going to use the one i have now (All 3 are in excellent/new condition) so i wont get it unless i really have to. Other than that, pretty much it. I do plan on going SLI or even 3 way in a few months. But for now Im going to go with just my single card and work my way up slowly. I do want to overclock as well.

Note: I previously wanted to get the EVGA 141 ATX X58 SLI LE but someone said i should get the classified since im going EVGA. Is it necessary for me to get the classified? Could i go with the x58 and maybe get a better gfx card?

Any suggestions or ideas throw em at me cause I wanna get this right and not regret getting something else or what not.

Danke,

Indy

Do you really want that EVGA board? Its awfully expensive, there are much cheaper choices that will suit your system just as well (and offer three PCIe slots, too). But nice choice on the Corsair PSU, that thing kicks ass!

PS: Danke? Haben wir einen neuen Deutschsprachigen in unseren Gefielden? :D

Holy Cow! What a jump!

Anyways, I would go with a cheaper board, do you really need Tri Sli/Xfire?

Pick a 5870, or 5850 if you are constrained by your budget...

EDIT: Personal Note: 3 Stars!!!

They are right, it is possible for you to find a cheaper board, yet still get some nice clocks out of it.

Also as said, if you have some cash for a 5870, you should definitely get one they're very fast cards and will compliment that system very nicely.

I'm pretty sure you can find some RAM that will have the same performance as those Dominators for half the price!

What are/were your current plans for the graphics card? You wern't still thinking about using that 9800GT?

If this is for gaming, the most money should be spent on the graphics. If I have a $1000-1500 budget, my utmost priority would be to have a 5870 AT LEAST, but I'd be shooting for 5850 Crossfire. Maybe even 5870 CF, but that may be a stretch.

My friend said not to worry about cards at the moment because in a few months, new cards are coming out so i should be saving money.

Yeah I guess so. After Nvidia releases a few cards you'll have more options and the prices of the 58XX series cards will most likely fall. But, there's always something coming out soon, sometimes you just need to bite the bullet .

i would get an Asrock X58 extreme. much cheaper and hell of a board. the classiffied is only good if u oc a ton on water or liquid nitrogen
u can also get cheaper ram that performs the same (kingston or normal corsair dominator, not gt)

I would say wait if you can until around the 1st of next year. Sata 6.0 and usb 3.0 are coming very soon and revised x58 boards are coming very soon to accommodate for them. Those who have used several different types of boards usually prefer either EVGA or Gigabyte.

For a power supply and wanting to run 2 or even 3 of the newer high end graphics cards and overclock that i7/i9, your going to need more than a 750w Antec. Newegg has the Enermax 1050w 85+ for 200 AR fs. A very good unit for an amazing price and a very silent unit too even with my ear next to it playing games. Could also jump on a PC&C 910w but would run a little more (maybe?).

Memory wise, you need to realize that running 1600mhz ram requires a minimum 3200mhz uncore on i7. Running much higher is going to start requiring a lot of vvt to get it stable 24/7. I would recommend getting either 1600mhz memory with tCL of 6/7 or get 2000mhz with tCL of 9 since not all 1600mhz memory will be able to run the higher speeds without losing some performance because of B2B. Also, the 1600mhz memory at higher speeds may require more memory volts where the 2000mhz will not making them run warm.

For a case, Cooler Master 840 since they have filters. I know a lot of people case about that plus I've loved my HAF 932 and C5 so I'm sure the 840 is an excellent unit too. You could probably get a nice Li Lian for about that price too. Don't cheap out too much on the case too. With all that hot hardware your going to end up with, lots of airflow is going to be very important unless your planning on water cooling it all.

Maybe look into a SSD for a little more than a OS install. Could depend on what the rest of the stuff ends up at price wise.
