Nice one with the SLI and Xfire support. Too bad this is only for this board...
Also, could someone tell Intel that their stock coolers are the laughing stock of the industry and should change them...

I am not so sure of that one, Intels stock cooler will work with a Q6600 right upto about 3.4gig!....that a 1gig overclock on a stock cooler? Does anyone else's do much better?

2x QX9550 + 2x 8800 Ultra + 4x FBDIMM + PhysX + lighting = 1200W (with 6x +12V rails)

Interesting numbers there. My current system runs off a 480W PSU, how could an extra videocard, physx card and faster CPU's (and less HD's) increase the power usage by 150%?

going by custom pc's test of a duel intel 5400 setup on a sever board, skulltrail will be very fast. That board would fit in my case snug as a bug.

^Skulltrail doesn't use DDR3 :D

It uses FB-DDR2, which is not much difference in power consumption.

2x QX9550 + 2x 8800 Ultra + 4x FBDIMM + PhysX + lighting = 1200W (with 6x +12V rails)

Having a single stronger rail or two strong ones is alot more effective than haveing 6:wtf:

Wasn't nvidia against SLI for intel?

That was With Intel CHipsets being used for SLI, Nvidia wanted Licensing Fee for SLI by Providing their own CHipsets, Crossfire seems to be more universal.

Beyond that- that setup = a second and 3rd mortgage

They supposedly didnt want to deal with compatability issues with the intel side of things. So at the last minute they backed ou ton the deal just previous to the 975X chipset release. Thats why it can do SLI but the drivers need to be hacked versions, and wont support 8 series cards!

Hello HP Did it with the Blackbird 2.0.

Interesting numbers there. My current system runs off a 480W PSU, how could an extra videocard, physx card and faster CPU's (and less HD's) increase the power usage by 150%?

Yeah..that was stupid:eek:

Your L5310 sips in 50W depending on load. The Yorkfield runs at 90W~140W depending on load. source. Two of these would mean 180W~280W. When choosing a PSU, we should keep the load power consumption in mind.

The 8800 Ultra takes in ~170W at load. Two of these ~340W.

The PhysX takes in ~30W at load....when it's in use.

Since your L5310 takes in 50W at peak let's replace it with 2x YF, 280 - 50 = 230W. Replace your single OC'ed 8800 GTS (~155W peak) with two 8800 Ultra, 340 - 155 = 185.

+30W for the PhysX

so you'd need 415W more if you were to use 2x QX9650, 2x 8800 Ultra, PhysX. Not to mention the Skulltrail could have a slightly higher power consumption of its own than your SM board. So roughly a 900W PSU should suffice.

The 3 you know of? Just look at the SuperMicro/Tyan/Intel/Asus/etc sites and you'll find they all have a whole lineup.
Far from all have the two requires PEG slots though, obviously many of them are server boards.

As for overclocking, the current options are BSEL pinmods, Systool (actually I heard it works on the X7DWA-N, didn't require W1z to add support) and you can change voltage via various mods. With the i5000 series you could already get a near 50% overclock. i5400 should increase this some more with the added 400MHz strap. The chips are in no way the limiting factor.

Yup, the three that have 1600FSB && 800Mhz FB, && dual (or more) slots for CrossFire ;) Didn't want to add the other two Tyan's because FSB and RAM support haven't been listed on their respective product pages.

Good news on the overclocking though. I've been slacking as my last dualie was a AthlonMP setup, haven't been watching the news much.

Multiply that x2 and your on the right track. :D

^You can fill in 64GB of memory, Just assign 4GB as the main available memory, create a 60GB RAMdrive. Set your startup config to copy your game resources to the RAMdrive from your HDD on each boot, keep a shortcut on your desktop pointing to the game on the RAMdrive. Play it from there and there will be close to no loading time whatsoever

I drool about things like that :D

Machine was P4D 3.2Ghz with 2GB DDR2-533 and 512MB set aside for the drive.

May not quite match the performance of a RAMdrive, but it's fast enough for me :D.

That aside, Skulltrail's looking to be awesome. We've all seen what an Intel CPUs and an nVidia GPUs can do together, but 2 Intel CPUs + 2 nVidia GPUs... there won't be a benchmark record left standing.

Doesn't need to be listed, 5400 supports 1600/800, 5100 and 5000 do not. However since 5100 got released together with the 5400 it might be moddable.

Hey DanTheBanjoman
Just wondering why 8800GTX Ultra's vs the new 9800GX2 in SLI with this setup? I would think this would run nice. Also why not just use 2 PSU's one for GPU's and other for the MOBO/CPU's etc.. I read some where they are only making 2000 of these boards only? And they will only be sold to vendors like VoodooPC, Dell etc.. Is this true? It seems right when I buy new parts for my rig something else comes out twice as better then what I got.. Grrrr...

I wouldn't know, are there any numbers of the 9800's out in the first place? Running 2 PSU's isn't uncommon. I used to have a seperate PSU for harddisks. Though since I went from normal CPU's to LV's it wasn't required anymore.

No clue where you could one of these boards, if at all.
