Is it possible for me to overclock my RAM to 1000MHz

I have 2GB OCZ PC2-6400 RAM (for now until I get my other 2GB back from OCZ) at 800MHz obviously (as you all know) and it's clocked at 900MHz now but can I bump it up to 1000MHz? My voltage on the RAM is 2.2V and current timings is 4-4-4-15-2T.

you have to increase the system BUS, and/or set the FSB strap higher

to start with, though, set your DRAM timings higher (i.e. 6-6-6-24) first, and then push your BUS speed up. If the system won't POST, raise MEM voltage a bit.

Once the system boots and is stable with the MEM at the higher speed, you can go back in and lower your timings a bit, and double check for system stability.

Well my FSB Strap to North Bridge is set to 400 right now and that's the highest it can go. In the RAM speed section, it gave me 2 options for the RAM speed, 908MHz (which I class as 900MHZ) and 1006MHz (which again I class as 1000MHz). I was thinking of putting my RAM timings as 5-5-5-15 and putting my RAM to 1006MHz then leaving the voltage at 2.2V then try and boot and see what happens.

PC wouldn't post. It would reboot then have a black screen. I have to reset CMOS. I tried at 1006MHz with 5-5-5-15-2T timings at 2.2V.

you could try that - the only reason I mentioned bumping timings up a little high is to make the trial and error process a little easier. High timings don't typically cause a system to not POST like too low of timings could (unless you set them astronomically high).

A word of advice, though, when attempting to raise DRAM speed, or any speed for that matter, you'll need more voltage. Usually, what I do, is once I have things stable at my new clocks, I'll then go back and lower voltages one step at a time until I've found the lowest voltage rating it will run stable at, and then I'll raise it one or two steps above that for a little buffer room (difference in temps, ambient temps, component load, etc might necessitate a little more voltage).

You can most defi attempt to leave voltage at 2.2 - it might just post, DRAM doesn't always seem to be as picky about voltages as a CPU is, but the tighter the timings, though, it'll start requiring a little more juice.

in that case, considering the board you're on; try 6-6-6-18 2T @ 2.6v

you could try 2.4 or 2.5 - most DDR2 is speced for 2.5 at their listed speed anyhow; ASUS boards tend to run a tad under what you set in BIOS, though.

If you have any doubts for yourself, try 2.4v first, though. Make sure you're comfortable with what you intend to run.

2.4v is way too much and more then likely the asus board will overvolt compared to whats set in bios. 2.2v is fine. Try 5-5-5-15 for timings. Also you might need to relax your performance level abit since the auto settings on your board might be too tight.

IDK about all that, I've ran well over 2.5v on DDR2 before, and pushing 2.0v with DDR3 currently.

If it is way too high a setting, I doubt the board would even POST, considering it's an ASUS.

Mine ram runs smooth and stable at 1000mhz at only 2.0v, and it's ADATA. So that should say something

I'm running Corsair XMS2 DHX TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX 4GB DDR2 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 5-5-5-18. It runs nice and stable at 1000. The timings were left on auto and I havn't tried to push if farther. It was running at 1.96 Volts dropping to 1.95.

still gotta work it more and tighten things up

Are you running a 1:1 on your memory or what? I dont see why you couldnt get 1000mhz with that memory. Im sure I could with this Wintec AMPro X myself.

TBH, I think it also depends on the sticks themselves sometimes.

I had just figured that if his sticks wouldn't take an extra 100MHz with slightly loosened timings on 2.2v, and I was also taking into account the typical ASUS "undervolt effect" as well

i've heard of many reports of ram dying at 2.4v - my ram overheated at 2.2v without a fan. merely booting/starting at such settings doesnt mean its good.

To be honest J-man, i had OCZ Plat rev 2 ram, and even at 2.2v i couldnt get past around 940Mhz or so. 1000 is just too high, for the majority of ram sticks out there.
you dont even mention what ram you HAVE (ocz have several kits in that speed rating) so people telling you to run massive voltages is a very, very bad idea - we dont know what kind of ram you have, it may be ram that dies very easily above 2.1v

I have to take back my statements from earlier - I was thinking 2.5v is normal for DDR2, when in fact 2.1v typically is max spec. Bad suggestion on my part, and I have to apologize for it

thats the exact same ram i had. avarice has it now, and no matter what we couldnt reach 1GHz.

somewhere around 950 with 5-5-5-15 2T and 2.1v was the best we got, we found 2.1v OC'd better than 2.2 for some reason as well (higher volts do not always mean higher clocks)

Well DDR2 is supposed to be able to run upto 2.3 volts without breaking according to the specification, Although it doesn't mean it has to run properly.
