I want to buy a 160GB iPod classic (Black) and I want to know where's the best place to buy it online (i.e the cheapest)
Anyone know of any particular ebay retailers or certain shops that sell it considerably cheaper
The average cost if £193 (with free engraving from the apple store)
Also does anyone have any experience with this player? A few of my friends have it and it's pretty good but what's battery life like? Are they sturdy? They feel pretty solid
What's the warranty on them like? etc. etc.

edit; also happy new year :)

Very sturdy, screens a bit small. But you can manage with it. IHMO I'd rather get a 32gb Ipod touch 4 for the same price. Just my two cents.

I would reconmend the 32gb itouch aswell if you are going to use apps but if you are only interested to just listening to music then the classic seems more worth it with the huge memory.

Yeah I'm more about the music, I don't like the apps much
seems too gimmicky
plus the ipod is sturdier
I break things easily

Well I'd recommend the 32gb touch. If you can get a 4g version you get a camera etc. Also it has wifi for browsing and the apps are quite good.

I recommend Cowon J3 or Hi-FiMan-601. The cowon has touch screen and incredible 50 hour battery life.

I'm going with the ipod because it has 160gb! I intend to keep this mp3 player for a very long time as my music collection expands exponentially :) plus I want the last fm scrobbler on my mp3 player

Athlon x3!
Hahah yeah I came across some money (read: mother lent me some because I am a poor teenager) and rebuilt it from scratch >:]]]]
Still haven't tried overclocking yet though :(

I use an iPod classic 80gb, I think its ok but I find it rather big and heavy. Also, I have not even filled half of it yet since that I delete stuff regularly. No need to have all your music with you all the time. Personally, I would like to look at lighter music players, or perhaps go for a phone with good memory and sound.

I WOULD buy an 80gb but they don't sell those anymore :(
I've used an ipod classic before and I don't find it that heavy
I want an ipod mainly so I can scrobble last fm tracks :)
Plus I genuinely think I could fill up 160 with music, comedy and podcasts :)

I use my 80GB classic all the time in my vehicle. I just connect it to the deck and play it while I'm on the road.

I haven't had a single issue with my iPod either. For music and videos, you can't go wrong, especially if you have a large collection. Nothing else will touch the storage capacity.

As for battery life, you're looking at around 10 - 12 hours of continuous playback on music, and probably around four hours for video.

Well, I only quoted 10 - 12 because I hardly use it outside of my car, lol.

I don't know where these people are getting the information for the iPod only being able to sync with iTunes. I've synced my iPod for years with Winamp, and Winamp has supported all mp3 players for years as well.

Oh good! Does it copy ALL your music library and update it immediately you plug your iPod in?

I'm not trying to troll here, but there are other players with the storage capacity of IPODS. Cowon X7 has 80gig and 160 gig variants, along with 100 HOURS of AUDIO playback battery life and 10 hours of VIDEO playback. Also it can play every type of file on the market, including FLAC, ALAC, AVI..etc. Best of all, you arent forced to install iTunes on your system to use it.

I couldn't find that Cowon mp3 player for less than £210 for the 120gb version
It's gonna have to be the ipod instead ;o

I don't consider the iPod Classic to be sturdy over the iPod Touch considering it uses a mechanical HDD where as the iPod Touch uses flash memory. So any strong shock could damage the platter.

But if storage is what you want, then you don't have much choice. Apps might sound gimmicky at first, but I bet you that you will get hooked. I also vote for the 32GB/64GB iPod Touch 4G.

It won't pull all of your music automatically if that's what you mean. You just have to go into winamp, and after you plug it in it will read your iPod under the devices tab. Simply right click on your library select "Send to" and select your iPod. It will then sync all of your songs to your iPod seamlessly.

You can scrobble on the COwon with QTScrobbler.

http://qtscrob.sourceforge.net/
I tried it with my current device but it's pretty annoying
It shows me as playing some songs 5-10 times when I listened to them only once!

I used to own one when it first came out, but after a while it just stopped working. It would turn on, but upon plugging it into any computer it would freeze it. Tried restoring it, no-go. Perhaps it was because I was unlucky, but..

Otherwise, unless you require the storage for entire seasons of shows (i.e. lots of videos), I would opt for the Touch. When I had my Classic, I liked it for being able to store ENTIRE seasons of shows and often complete seasons.. :D

just remember that they use mini-hard drives. ssd based players will last longer.
