I blame the lack of interesting topics lately. All I come across is some pixelated and cut/pasted photo's of random stellar bodies in between trying to find topics that are alive.

Their GPUs aren't too bad and some people are on extreme budgets for CPUs.

Exactly, it's not like a modern AMD CPU or APU is not powerful enough for any game out today, they are. Intel CPU's are faster, but that doesn't mean AMD CPUs are not fast enough.

And about their GPUs, I was quite satisfied with the performance of the HD7970 that my GTX 780ti replaced. I only upgraded to the 780ti because I moved from 1200p to 1600p resolution.

Definitely, it's not a 'great' gaming PC, but you may play in all modern games with low-mid settings.

What you're failing to point out is that the most complex part of PCs is always the software. You aren't dealing with complex code in hardware, just basic fit and power issues.

I've seen people take up lots of time, to the point of marathon threads, asking advice just for what parts to spec, which is the case with pick your parts build houses too. The ones less inclined to learn the details about how to USE the PC once they get it, usually still have lots of problems. Many give up and return or sell their systems because of software problems they've caused themselves. Many often assume they didn't pick the right parts, or listened to the wrong advice.

I'm not trying to intimidate first timers, just educate them on what to expect. This is not something you learn just by researching a few parts. So yeah, you're right about the researching of the build itself taking time, but there's much more to it than that. Those whom assume the software end will be easier, are in for a wake up call.

yeah but building yourself is part of the fun, and you get to know what you are building. So if there is a problem with your PC, it's easier to identify the problem, and if there is a bottleneck from one of the components, it's also easier to change it yourself. Plus building yourself you usually get better quality components. So not only fun, but also educational

^Many whom buy prebuilts insist they're doing it to save time and hassle, but I can't help but feel they think they're avoiding complexity by it. So naturally when problems arise after purchase, which they always do for those new to PC software, the panic sets in, and is often worse than what they'd experience just trying it on their own.

While it's much easier to buy your pre-build system (with everything you want) , it's also more expensive.
And I'm betting most users that build their own system, do this to get more for less money than they would otherwise spend, or for plain economics.
Nowadays when I have to build for myself or my sons, I already get tired by the thought of it, and sure enough I already started to wonder if I was better off in buying it pre-build. But looking at the various webshops and their prices, I still make the effort and buy the components to build with.

And as always after a new build, when it boots into bios, it will give a good feeling. Same as when repairing a broken system, troubleshooting for the faulty components, fixing it with some spare part leftover from previous upgrades.
It's very rewarding if you're into computers.

It's your OPINION to say it's better to build it yourself. It's not a fact. Get that through your head.

If someone wants a prebuilt then let them get one. If someone wants to build/learn to build then hell let them do whatever they want. Getting really fed up with shit like "its better to build cuz you know your stuff" or "prebuilts cost more" because in the end all we can do is ADVISE. Quit trying to put your opinion in as fact because you know how the damn PC works inside and out and they don't.

Not everyone wants to sit down and pick parts. Not everyone can "click" into the idea of building their own rig. If the world went by your ideals then every single company should take the days upon days to build their own computers rather than get prebuilts, slap on some software and get to business. It's the same concept for a single person; less time waiting to get production going.

For those people who freak out when something small happens? Guess what; that's what tech support is for. To answer the small questions because people know how to use and not to troubleshoot. Again, with y'alls ideals everyone would sit on forums like this and tech support jobs would stop being a thing. I'm pretty sure some of you want to keep those jobs.


Quit shoving your opinions between prebuilt/BYOD on other people. Give advice, not idiotic "its better 2 build teehee." I'm not making fun of you Trog.

I'm opinionated on giving advice, and it being sound advice. Threads like these get no where and at the end it comes down to people going off and saying "hey building is better so you should totally do it because we're right" type deals. Everyone is entitled to their two cents but too many people are trying to shove their three cents in for no reason or another.

My post was mainly to bring to light how much force-feeding there was about that building bullshit. Look through the thread and the useless pages with useless posts about the same wording in each one.

WTF is going on in here. You all need to learn that opinions are something people have a right to... attacking others over them is silly. Just state your view and move on. If you've graduated to personal insults about forum epeen or post count or what have you, you are doing it completely wrong.

And for the record, I completely agree with both parties... to an extent. PC-builder brigade is right on one thing: Building your own is usually cheaper and you have a lot more control if you can manage it. Toothless is also right that it's not for everyone and some people shouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole and maybe it's good that they recognize that before they break something.

If this opinion causes you rage issues or heartache, consult your doctor. Not my problem.
