I own a MBP and love it. Best of both world, running win 7 for my activclient software and games, which I honestly have no problem playing with the 1440x900 screen. However I would not buy this iPad, it just seems pointless honestly. I would buy this phone long before I ever thought of buying an iPad

I love the itouch/phone, but the ipad is a big itouch... Still, I find the iPad not so bad, if it were at 300$, big max 400$.... but 500$? Yea, no thxs, rip-off by alot

I for one welcome the iPad.

Don't get me wrong, I will probably never buy one, but the concept is a good one. Why? Well, if you can look past the deficiencies (lack of flash, lack of multi-tasking, no webcam, iphone OS rather than full OSX, price), which will probably get fixed in future versions, and look at it's strong points, then it actually starts to make sense.

As an e-reader, it looks fantastic. Publishers, especially magazines, will be tripping over themselves to get their digital magazines on the iPad. All the usual glossy content will look as good, if not better, on the iPad than in print. Also they can put more content in. Why put just a photo of Lindsey Lohan flashing her bits when they can put the whole video on the page? And this is not to mention the cheaper distribution costs.
On top of the e-reader, it also does e-mail (and the other million pathetic fucking apps), and grandma doesn't need a whole, full-functioning OS just to e-mail Frankie in Minnesota. No, she just needs a big iTouch that will also deliver her monthly copy of Country Music Monthly straight to her lounge sitting chair.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Apple like the rest of you - iTunes + Quicktime are the devil to me, but I do see a positive future for the iPad. And I do think it will have a net positive effect on digital content and distribution.

Man most of you guys are bashing the iPad even if you guys havent used it. Its pricey alright. But its a neat device in my opinion. I own a iPod Touch. I love it. So far Apple has been awesome. So the iPad cant be that bad. Its obviously targeted for one type of market. Because of the large screen and the light weight its easy to get your stuff done. Typing is supposed to be a piece of cake on it.

I don't like that it uses the iPhone OS, why can't it run a slimmed down OSX, then it would feel more useable. I don't really see this one being all that useful, the idea of it is sound, but if they used a better operating system, then it could have far more uses.

I might look at getting a similar product, more features, for less money.

So let's assume then it's only $150 in 2005...good thing I went with a Walkman phone instead (470MB+4GB MSPro Duo). But then again I haven't really bought and used extensively anything from Apple...(because they're always expensive and apparently a sign of being "cool" even if you aren't).

But anyway, yes apple gear is generally overpriced - but that is part of their business brand strategy I imagine.

I will not consider getting an iPhone until it has the capacity to hold my ~40GB of music, as I don't see the point of owning both - and even then only if it's contracts become shorter (or significantly cheaper).

You can get an iPod Touch 64GB.

Plus you gets tons of cool apps. Your iPod wont even be able to touch or even sense the iTouch (its worlds apart and will be a definite replacement )

Yeah, if I had to replace my iPod right now I would probably get something like that. Ideally I want to combine my phone & music so I only need one device. If my situation changes, for instance, I might not need the iPod as much, so could put up with listening to music via a clunky phone interface.
