As the title says, I am looking for a gaming laptop of notebook capable of playing games such as battlefield 3. I'd preferable want a quad core processor with 4GB+ RAM, my prefered retailer is amazon but I am willing to go anywhere. My budget is around £800

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

No such laptop exists on that budget.

However you stand a very good chance of building a very powerful gaming desktop for £800.

Battlefield 3 on what settings? I have a Asus K series i7 8GB RAM GT 630M powered laptop for around 800 USD and it plays BF3 nicely on low-medium settings

I would prefer money to rain from the sky. You have two choices a better GPU that will give better FPS in all games or an Intel CPU that will be bottlenecked by your weaker video card.

Also remember AMD is powering both next gen consoles...Sticking with an AMD CPU might be a bit smarter future proofing.

I don't need the laptop specifically for gaming as I have a gaming desktop, I just need it to be capable of running some high end games on the market atm.

Well then find me a single one that laptop will not run better than any of the other laptops you have listed. Find me an all around application you will use that an Intel chip will be so bleedingly faster you will be able to see the difference outside of a time clock and benchmarks.

There are none. Buy what works not what has Intel stamped on it. There is a reason AMD has 43% of the current desktop market now. Performance per dollar.

Looking for medium - high settings

You are going to be very disappointed. Laptops are not designed to run the most intensive games at high detail at a reasonable frame rate. Maybe the last generation of high end games from a few years ago, but games like Crysis 3, BF3, Farcry 3 isn't happening unless you're OK with 25FPS, medium detail and occasional slowdowns. Don't expect the next wave of intensive games to play at all.

As others have already pointed out AMD currently have the fastest gaming CPUs or APUs. There is no similarly performing Intel alternative.

PS guys the OP is in the UK, so Ebuyer.com, Scan.co.uk, Overclockers.co.uk, dabs.com are regarded as the best hardware etailers.

Battlefield 3 Ultra MSI GE70 Windows 8 - YouTube
MSI GE70 - Battlefield 3 - 1600x900 HI-Detail GTX...

My proposed laptop's performance. Its pretty powerful (if slightly jerky) if you ask me. Gaming on the laptop has improved by leaps and bounds since you last see them if you think they are only capable of playing at low to mid. Most of them can hit high-very high even with non top end stuff. Even the bottom feeders with a discrete can pump out decent framerates with everything toned down.

I personally think AMD's APU are only good for low-mid stuff, they are worth their money if you are willing to stay below the £600-$900 line, anything more you will want a discrete + Intel solution. Yes, Intel, AMD's performance is pretty limited in the mobile market.

I would recommend Dell 15SE if you are willing to wait for offer.

Other shops worth looking:
Saveonlaptops
Amazon
Hotukdeals (not strictly a laptop site, but you can hunt for deals there)

For his price range the best all around laptop for games and anything else is the one I posted. 7970+a10 combo will handle any game, CAD word, school work and whatever better than an Intel quad+gt650 end of story.
