Personally i think most steambox user's are going to fall into three categories ardent valve fans, the casual few who like the sound of it and those streaming in home from a decent pc ill be getting the cheap one off valve with a pad, i liked inhome streaming but the game selection and also poor porting and minimal menus/features put me off steam os ,of 160 pc windows games i could play about 35 straight away but i dont really dig indie games (yeah even though i bought them) and there's few AAA's.

That, detective, is the right observation.

I've been furious over this crap for a few years now. Steam does not really suffer from shortage of AAA titles, but the flood of indie sewage is making things so much worse.
Steam creates big profits on this crap either way, but any consumer-oriented platform (SteamOS and Steam Machines) needs strict content and quality control (see XBOX and Playstation). At this point Valve doesn't care as far as all publishing fees are paid.
It's like a plague today, follows same symptoms for every new product:
- start an independent project by yourself or with a small team of drinking buddies/classmates/D'n'D
- post it on Kickstarter to get $100 for Greenlight submission fee
- If your project is in semi-working condition, then start an early access. Otherwise - start another kickstarter campaign with "Steam Greenlit" and "Early Access Ready" banners on top
- If you were able to actually finish the game - cool. If not, just run early access until you get shitcanned, and then abandon the project
