They can, and they have done so. Though such toys aren't released to the mainstream market. I recall seeing this quad ati 9800, was used for airplane simulators.

actually i think ati/nvida are way ahead in multi gpu... since each of the old gpu's are one core i belive, and my 9600gt has 64. but yea 8 9600gt chips on a single cards working together would pwn (or 8 gtx285s, or the new ati chips)

Nothing's wrong with old hardware as long as it's being used for the right purpose. For example, I have a Pentium 3 machine (that's currently down due to an evil optical drive) in service, and all it does is run a Ventrilo server. I also run WCG on it like I do all my hardware because it doesn't cost me squat (utilities included in rent) and it's for a good cause. In that machine I am sporting a GeForce 4 MX4000. It does nothing but give me a visual of what's going on. The only benefit I would get from upgrading would be the ability to run F@H on the graphics card, but the only F@H capable AGP cards are all ATI cards, and that's only a 2x or 4x slot anyway. Also, my mom's computer has a freakin TNT2... does the same job as my MX4000.

oldest card i still have is a 9600pro played half life 2 and all that at great settings good bang for buck card

then the oldest card i had was some REALLY old ATi card from 96 or was it 97 doesnt matter cant remember the model

old hardware is good to recycle uses less power than a modern system but obviously its not as powerful

i had a bad arse 3dfx collection at one time. v5 6000, v5 5500 rare 4x agp version, v4 4500, several v3 cards in all forms, one rare v3 based agp card made specifically for compaq. good times, also had several rare t-shirts and a hat that was only given to 3dfx employees. slowly sold it all off as i got older most of it was ending up in boxes instead of in use and or on display like it deserved.

I've actually got an ISA graphics card from about 1992 knocking about somewhere that can only do 256 colours without an upgrade. I think it could be upgraded to a whole meg of ram.

ISA bus: for those that are too young to remember, this dates back to the 1980's, way before even PCI came along.

I have an old IBM aptiva, which i upgraded with a 3dfx voodoo1 with 4mb vram!
That computer was awesome, and it featured in many lan parties well into the new millenium. Good times.

This 1993 Apple HPV video card has 2MB, upgradeable to 4MB with 512K SIMMs. Other than that, all I've gathered is that it supported thousands of colors at 640x480.

I'm holding a Diamond Viper V770U ATX 2x16 AGP Card. Made in 1999. I've never used it, I just have it. I started this little hobby where I'll trade an old card for an older, slower card so they can upgrade and I can look at older stuff. I've made it back a decade lol

yea i actually had that in my current rig last year! 2 voodooIIs, a radeon 7500 theater card, and an 8600GT... my motherboard is weird... i'll have to find the cards and put them back in lol... where'd i put that pass-through cable???

I seem to remember my original sound Blaster using ISA, and a Video card that gave you Super Vga with no memory (can't remember what it was called)
I miss my 286 12mhz with 2mb of ram

Totally. My 9800SE is on the verge of retirement though. OMG Doom 3! I never clocked that damn game!!!!! I will have to get hold of a copy, finish it, then put the old Socket A rig out to pasture.
