New board , Asus P8B WS , brand new . No , Asus didn't replace my Sabertooth , i had to buy it . What do you know . XFX R9-280 won't work in UEFI mode with this board either . Intel Chipset C206 , not P67 , all my memory is recognized . I'm still curious how long it will take until the R9 will destroy this board too .

Well apparently if it's a B1 or B2 version ASUS ask you to RMA the board, and as i asked before if you have not had the card for over a month and you had it from newegg just get a replacement and if your nice with them they probably pay shipping both ways.

Goodness, sounds like ASUS is just full of issues as of late..

I'd search around for any fixes to your GPU before it (could) wreck your board. I've never heard of GPUs limiting memory THOUGH are you sure your 4GB that was missing wasn't going to the GPU? Weird question yes but I'm wondering if shared memory took it over.

AsRock , the motherboard is a B3 revision . I need to take this R9 to a friend's tho , maybe it has some issues with older motherboards . Toothless , i already talked to the guys at XFX and they told me to contact the reseller in order to get a new bios :)))) . The R9 wasn't limiting my memory , it was the same with any card i used after the Sabertooth started to have this issue . Now , i don't know if it was the R9 or not , but troubles started after i've replaced the HD5870 with the R9 and reinstalled Windows . AsRock , i can't return the card to Newegg , it's been purchased 2 or 3 months ago , icba to check my mail now , but i've got it on Christmas . The purchase date was 2 months older . I'm gonna sell it for nothing , maybe someone has use of the cooling system .

That was i thought from the start, but i see no reason why a 3 GB card would take 4 Gb more from the physical memory . I've even removed the card and reinstalled Windows with a Nvidia card on . Same issues , memory missing , memory is fine , cpu is fine , Sabertooth is dead , that is .

I did a 3Dmark Vantage test on the "new" rig . Results are the same as with the Sabertooth , but i just recalled that on Sabertooth , Vantage was crashing at the cpu test . It worked with the new board . UEFI still doesn't work , but i assume there is a incompatiblity between R9 and Sandy Bridge chipset , regarding the PCI-ex 3.0 . Here's the results http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/5205598

Please don't double, triple and quadruple post (you get the drift), I spent 20 minutes earlier just cleaning up this thread, if you have something to add you can use the edit function to add a paragraph to your earlier post, if you want to answer multiple replies then simply use the "multiquote" tab to do so...... And i didn't even posted all my discussion with them . I had a previous ticket regarding the death of the HD5870 ( still under warranty ) and they've served me that Wade also . Again with the resellers .

Hey Guys,

I investigated the ticket this is regarding. Wade, in broken english translation, is trying to say there are no known issues with UEFI and this GPU's bios, so return it to the retailer for a replacement.

I understand you are frustrated because you bought it from Newegg in the US, or so it appears, and you are currently in Europe... Shipping isnt cheap.

We want to help you.

If you are still having issues with your card, set your region to North America and use our USA Tech Support team.

Thank you

Hi XFXSupport , thanks for the intervention . Yes , the item was purchased from Newegg and i live in Europe . The problem is still there , the machine won't POST in UEFI mode with the R9-280 . I will follow your indications , but first i want to be sure that it is not a PCI-Ex issue ( i.e. bug in Sandy Bridge chipsets ) . Thank you .

P.S. : I am not sure if my frustration exists due the fact that i was disappointed by the newer XFX products and not because i've spent some money i don't have , on them . I still have a 7900GTX , since 2005 , in perfect order . I was an XFX addict . I ran only XFX cards since 2005 and i was expecting the same quality of products as before . I've never had to RMA a XFX graphic card . Never .

Everything started with this damn R9-280 i got . Everything was fine before i got it , installed it and reinstalled Windows . I was playing Crysis 3 and i've noticed that my CPU temp went to 70 C out of the blue . It never went that high , even oced and i was on stock speed . Then i noticed that the computer was a bit slower like before and i've check something and noticed that there were only 4 GB present on system properties . This was how all started . I assumed that maybe the R9 was too power hungry for my PSU , but this PSU ran a GTX295 without a problem , for years and that card requires more power than the R9 .
Where the latest chipset drivers installed from ASUS after reinstalling Windows? Was there a problem that required you to reinstall windows before you bought the new GPU?

Revision B3 fixed the known issues in Sandy Bridge Chipsets which is what your Southbridge shows as.
I am confused as to why CPUZ reports the Ram as 8Gb and doesn't show each slot individually as it does on every instance I have run on my computers.

Caring1 , i am always using the latest drivers , at least for motherboards . That wasn't a issue , Asus didn't release newer drivers , then the 9.3.0 version came up ( if i recall ) and i grabbed it . So , yes , i was using the latest chipset drivers and no , there was no problem that required a new Windows installation before . I chose to reinstall Windows because until the R9 arrived , i had to use a Nvidia Quadro graphic card and i like to keep my system clean . The ram problem is solved , in a way , i bought another motherboard and everything is fine . In fact , this board works better than the Sabertooth P67 even that it is a workstation board with a Intel C206 chipset . If you look at the bios screenshots , you can see that Asus SPD Information tool reports that every slot is populated with 2048mb but the main page shows only 4096 mb . Then , there's a contradiction between HWinfo and CPU-z also . Whatever , too late , i've spent my last money on a new mobo ( one that i could afford ) . But then again , i can't use the machine in UEFI mode with the R9-280 on this mobo either , this is why i want to take it to a friend , he runs a Z77 Maximus Formula and test it . If it works there , the entire equation will change .

XFX =pretty decent decent for RMA...one of the best IMO

If you wanna OC it..maybe notsomuch.
They do offer pretty good support, though.
Last one I had.. I killed..my fault.Did not attempt RMA..
not their fault i attached a sink that slid onto a choke.

My last two experiences with XFX were different . I guess that the warranty and rma policy differs from a country to another . I never overclocked a video card , i never needed to . I am not an OC fan , overall . But , i was used to XFX as they were , not as they are now . I still have a XFX GeForce 7900GTX since 2005 . That card is still in perfect order , regarding both , functionality and aspect . Then , i've replaced it with another XFX , a 8800GTX that lasted 4 years . I was very pleased with that card too . I had mostly XFX cards and i was never forced to apply for a RMA or so , because they never died . Now , the last two , the HD5870 ( which was a great card and i loved it but the fan blower died too soon ) and this R9 that gives me headaches made me change my opinion . I am sorry , this is my personal experience . But in the end , my main issue was with the Asus Sabertooth and not with XFX . I could care less about a graphic card , but when a motherboard dies , that might be a bit of a problem , especially when the reseller went out of business and it doesn't exist anymore . Whatever . This thread can be closed , it's obsolete .
