Really nothing new other than Toshiba is getting more into the game... won't be too long before more smart phones have OLED displays than LCD.

"...We have seen Toshiba’s potential Retina Display challenger earlier in the week, and now we have yet another display from Toshiba to keep your visual senses occupied – we are talking about a flexible OLED display that measures 3″ across diagonally, but is a mere 0.1mm thin – now that is super slim no matter which way you look at it! Of course, the good news does not stop there since it tips the scales at just 1 gram. The main selling point? It isn’t only the weight and size, but the very fact that it can retain image quality over a long period of time, at least that is what The Nikkei in Japan claims. ..."

Doesn't say. The Samsung Galaxy phone has a 4" 800x480 AM OLED display, and I'm sure they can make the dot pitch even finer in the future.

Edit: This is regarding a LCD screen they are developing LINK
" ...As mobile devices get more and more pervasive these days, it makes perfect sense for hardware manufacturers to do their level best to release technology that will stand heads and shoulders above the crowd, and is future proof to a certain extent. Toshiba of Japan has certainly done themselves proud at SID 2011, showing off a new kind of LCD display that will see action in cellphones, boasting 367ppi (pixels per inch) on a 4″ High Definition (720 x 1280 resolution) model. Of course, what kind of comparison this would be if it were not to be compared against Apple’s highly touted Retina Display that features 326ppi at 960 x 640 resolution?..."

It will happen, but a few years out... and don't limit your imagination to 32"

Yes, that my take on it too... but this technology is only restrained by manufacturing tech at the moment.

    Current Retna resolution is 960 x 640
