With activation of a new line of service, Amazon.com offers the Motorola DROID Android 3G Smartphone for Verizon Wireless for $49.99 with free shipping. That's tied with our mention from last week as the lowest total price we could find. Features include a 3.7" 480x854 color touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera with IS, support for Microsoft Exchange Email and Outlook, WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth, Android 2.0 OS, up to six hours of talk time, and more.

They don't have coverage where I live.

    Then again, neither does AT&T.
Or damn near anyone else. Our local carrier is a Sprint roaming partner that's "new phones" have been out 2 years. lol I'll be looking into a Droid about 2016.

the best one they have is $70 with unlimited talk minutes. If you want unlimited text as well, that plan is $90 a month.

I get pretty good coverage with AT&T , but I'm usually in metro areas where I travel. As far as Mountains here in Idaho it doesn't matter who you have there is very limited coverage unless you get to the highest peak.

The catch is getting a contract in the first place

and paying for the phone aswell!

You Americans get shanked worse then we do when it comes to contracts, atleast the phones are completely free for us if we sign away our souls
