Alright guys I got a weird problem. I went out and bought a new mouse because my OCZ laser mouse was dying. Now here's my setup I have two computer working on the same screen and the same keyboard and mouse I of course use a KVM switch to achieve this. Now when I shutdown my computer with this new mouse the little light on the mouse stays on. The back lighting on the keyboard goes off but not the mouse. Any thoughts why???
I have read on a couple of other forums that this is common with some motherboards... especially it seams with my brand of Gigabyte.
So like I said does anyone else have this problem.... maybe with the same motherboard or others it doesn't matter. Then the biggest question is ..... If I just leave it like this will this cause any of my systems to get a short or anything like that?

One other thought on this ..... Now I don't think so but this couldn't be maybe caused by my Overclocking settings in anyway could it? Like maybe the EIST setting or the C1E settings?

Is the mouse plugged into a USB port on the back of the mobo or to one on the front panel? All of my stuff connected to the back goes off with the computer, but power still comes from my FP USB ports even when the computer is off. Lets me charge stuff without the PC being on.

The keyboard and mouse are both plugged into a KVM switch. The KVM switch is then plugged into the back panel.

I'm not sure then, have you looked through the BIOS for anything pertaining to USB power? It doesn't make sense that it would only be happening with the mouse and not the keyboard too.

It feeds from the USB.

Yeah that's what I'm screaming too!

But I'll be right back I'm going to plug just the mouse into the front panel and then shut down and see what happens then I'm going to check the BIOS better. BRB

5VSB power is being routed to the KVM from a computer when it is turned off. I've had older boards use jumpers for this or a BIOS setting, but I haven't found either on my ASUS Crosshair III (which seems to leave the back ports powered 24/7)

Okay so has that caused any problems for you? And do you think it is safe?

Okay I'm back after looking in the BIOS there is nothing that could be doing this that I am aware of enabled. I also unplugged it from the KVM and plugged it into the front port and it still stayed on.
My theory of what is happening is that my motherboard is always putting power to the USB ports. And the reason the lights go off on the Keyboard is because that it dose have a switch on the Keyboard to shut it off. There for maybe a setting on the keyboard drivers also has a setting to shut off the lights apon shut down.
Because my replacement mouse is cheap it doesn't have either. How does this sound for a theory? Does this sound logical?

Like I sadi my last OCZ laser mouse the Light did shut off! This mouse is a cheap brand by the name of Gigaware

No wait that theory doesn't make sense ether .... man I don't know all I care about is to make sure it's safe I could give a crap if it wants to stay on :)

I just plugged in my old OCZ mouse and yes that one still turns off when I power down(at least the light turns off) So I think it's just this mouse and I hope there is no danger.
