msi 6950 PE unlock, odds of success?

I was bashing my head in for a few hours today trying to unlock my MSI R6950 PE/OC card for shader increase to no avail. I tried both the method in the powerpoint presentation from MSI specific to this card as well as W1zzard's guide here along with an unlocked PE bios from the collection. Nothing. I even tried using winflash, which fails completely. The dos method has success but the shader count does not change in GPU-z, regardless of whether or not I reinstall my drivers. Did I just get a stubborn or unflashable card? Really regretting this purchase at the moment. Thanks for any help.

newer 6950s can not be flashed.. did you try modded 6950 bios to unlock extra shaders?

No, it's the Power / OC Edition with the Twin Frozr III cooler.

OH i ordered the reference and been really lucky my card even with stood the whole 6970 bios for along time with clocks of 940 by 1425 i think it was

Seems, with that card, it is the luck of the draw.
Some have and others can't unlock it.
Some have had the fan blades snap off at max fan speed and others are ok (this is just some FYI).

That's the exact same set of files, including the powerpoint guide, that I found through google at MSI's website. Not really a secret procedure.
