Right so with Asus, was that molex connector connected to PSU?

the 8 pin CPU connector on the left needs to be plugged in or the system shouldnt boot, but the 4 pin molex on the right is for *drumroll* additional power when using high end video cards.

yeah for CPU radeon and it was half plugged before and i removed it to put the full connector but there was nothing new on CPU over clocking

power the system off, plug in that 4 pin and see what happens. IMO it wasnt the video card having a lack of power at all, but the motherboard not feeding enough juice through the PCI-E slot.

My oldskul motherboard doesn't have that molex connector :laugh:

set it back to OC clocks and run some tests

normally its only present on high clocking SLI or crossfire boards. DFI almost always have it near the top PCI-E slot, and some asus boards do as well (sometimes they use floppy connectors, which can be hard to tell apart from 4 pin PWM fan connectors in pics)

His motherboard manual actually calls that molex plug "PCI-E_12V"

I very much doubt that connector will make any difference.
GTX260 draws ~35W from PCIe slot and the card wouldn't even boot if slot power was unavailable as onboard RAM is powered from the slot 12V rail.

Logic often has little to do with gigabyte motherboards in my experience. remember that his board is PCI-E 1.1, running a factory overclocked PCI-E 2.0 card.

Also dont forget the PCI-E specification did NOT change the amount of avilable power from the PCI-E slot.

I always believed it did till W1zz said otherwise.

so thats explain why my board doesn't have the 4-pin connector. Well its a high clocking board when its released way back 06.

The fact that it passes one hour occt on reference clocks but fails on sc clocks tells me it is the card.

I can upload a reference clocked BIOS with improved fan profile if you like.

nah, i'm rather confident its the video card now. The only three options were bad card, bad power, or overheating. and we kinda exhausted everything on the last two.

I suggest letting alex help you with the BIOS mod - just make sure to backup the original (upload it into an email account, somewhere SAFE) in case you ever do RMA it or sell it.

Okay here is a stock EVGA Core 216 BIOS with my modded fan profile. With your ambient temps you will probably hit 100% fan under load, but you said you wanted that anyway.

Flash to this, make sure it can do at least 30 mins OCCT: GPU.

Then we can look at starting from scratch on the overclocks :toast:
