Hello TPU community,

I want to build a new system to replace my Intel Core duo E7400\HD 4850 one, which im gonna use mainly for 1080p gaming and do some moderate overclocking. At first i was thinking AMD 8350, but decided to go with Haswell instead.
I'm gonna keep an OCZ Vertex III SSD and HDD from my old build and buy everything else except for the GPU since i cant afford it right now.

So what I'm thinking is :

  • Intel i5-4670k
  • MSI Z87 G45 or GD65 mobo
(GD65 has 2 more sata ports which im not going to use, better power delivery i think, and comes with an SLI bridge, but i can get one from ebay.Price difference is about 30€.The GD65 has an OC Genie button which is supposed to overclock better than the software controlled G45,but i guess im gonna manually overclock to reach like 4.5-4,7 GHz)
  • Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB 1600Mhz CL9 memory
  • Corsair H100i cooler

  • OCZ ZT 750(110€), Corsair TX750M(120€) or Corsair HX750(150€)
    • The OCZ one is fully modullar which is nice, since i can easily clean the PSU
    • TX, might be a bit more reliable, but more hardwired cables
    • HX, 80+ gold
    • I'm thinking of getting a single GPU first, and after a year or so, adding a second one, so that's why the 750 watts but do i need to spend the extra 30-40 € for the 80+ Gold for the dual GPU and overclocking?
  • Lastly the GPU, I'm thinking an MSI GTX 760 TF 2GD5/OC (300€),ΑSUS HD7950-DC2T-3GD5-V2 (330€) or MSI GTX770 N770 TF 2GD5/OC (450€)
    • The 770 is more expensive, outperforms both as single and i don't think i will need to SLI it
    • The 7950 seems very sexy with the triple cooler, plus I'm more of an AMD fan, but if I Crossfire it, i think the first one's fans wont get much air
    • Lastly the 760 which is the cheapest and with SLI will get better performance than the 770.
    • I guess i could wait for the AMD 9000 series in Octomber, but i think the 7950 will be a bit pricey

If you can do it, get the 770. If you are going with an MSI GAMING board, choose an MSI GAMING VGA, you'll thank yourself for sticking with a specific brand for your entire build, later.

Everything else looks fine, PSU, I'd choose 760 platinum unit, myself. I won't buy a PSU with anything lower than a "GOLD" rating, myself, but I'm a snob that way.

Yeah i was leaning towards that, plus you get more GPU boost clock with MSI gaming boards.

As for the PSU, i could even go for the AX760 plat, but since most moderate builds i've seen use bronze PSUs I'm trying to save as much as i can to use for the GPU
