I have an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D CPU on an X670E-PRO M/Board with 64G RAM (2 x 32G, DDR5, 6000MHz) of which 8G are dedicated to the iGPU. Being an AMD CPU, the iGPU is AMD Radeon.

I am on a fixed budget and have a choice between:
  • Adding an additional 64G RAM and increasing the iGPU memory to 16G (max allowed by the BIOS).
  • Getting an NVidia 4060 PCIe GPU with 8G
I am not a gamer but dabble in Computer Graphics [Adobe, Blender, GIMP, OBS and plugins).

Thanks

The Radeon iGPU is incredibly basic and slow, a 4060 will be far faster.

Basically the above. 16G of ram to that weak igpu wont make much difference. Go with the 4060. As a bonus it will offer slightly better hardware accelerated OBS encoding.

iGPUs from normal Radeon CPUs are very slow , very basic and mostly used only to debug your system if something goes wrong and maybe for H decoding Youtube videos etc.. , the iGPUs from Radeon G series CPUs are better but still very slow compared to a dedicated GPU.

Thank you for clarifying. I will go with that.

I also get the impression that CG software *prefers* Nvidia. And even though I'm not in the market for it the cards can drive more than two monitors.

Happy new year
