So now that bulldozer is out, im ready for a new build. I was waiting for it to come out to see how it would go against a 2600k. But I'm disappointed because the results are not as good as i expected. Im going to be using this pc for gaming, browsing and a little video editing.

No offense, but it seems a bit silly asking a question to which you already know the answer ;)

I mean is it still worth getting based on the price, and the 8 cores can be useful in the future

TBH, I can't see the benefit in that at all. By the time BD is seemingly a good desktop CPU, the next gen will be out and handily beating it.
What you want is performance *now*, not some unknown time-frame in the future..

Depends on what you are doing right now. Buying Bulldozer in hopes of a magical fix is kinda throwing your money away.

An i7-2600k will be a beast right now, and for the foreseeable future.

If you aren't going to be doing a lot of video editing and encoding, then an i5-2500k might be better, and save you a few bucks. You could use the savings to get an SSD for your OS and your favorite apps.

depending on what hardware you have now; it may benefit you to not go cutting edge on the cpu.

I have a 965be and was waiting for bd to come out to drop prices on the thuban. im going to wait about 2 months, buy a 1100 thuban(which in gaming performs almost as good as BD) for pennies and just drop it in and go. 15 minutes...done.

It will buy me plenty of time til the next gen amd chip comes out.

From what i have seen BD is pretty much only around 10% better than the current gen amd chips in real world applications however if someone was planning on building a network file server on a budget; i would go BD all the way.

Some reason it seems to be a beast in that respect but average in everything else. Then again it is a first gen chip; i never expected it to be badass first time around.

However if money isn't an object go with the intel chip. I just prefer AMD for longevity in the sense that I dont have to change my mobo every time I want to upgrade and im willing to bet am3+ will be around for a while.

For most consumer applications the AMD chips can easily run any application out there.

My Vote:

Thuban

edit: with the money you save you can get a good ssd.
