I am new to this forum. Any forums for that matter. I just never cared enough or had the time to participate.

Not new to the site though. I've read you for a few years now.

Edit: I don't know whether the post about newbies was targeted @me , if it were :

I found the link somewhere. probably pclab.pl as I read that most frequently.

Feel free to ask admins about my IP , I do not mind, not at all. I might have setup an account some moths ago when I wanted to ask something about GPU voltmods, but I am not really sure if I did and if I had posted anything nor what was the name of the account.

does that mean if I got no posts I shouldn't be posting anything? How do I get some posts so I can post?
This is one of the reasons I had really been avoiding forums...

I am actually curious, TPU has a TON of cool content to chat about so when I see new people that make their first post in a thread like this I just wonder.

I am in no way bitching just a really curious person.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

I have always been wondering how people with 0 posts always seem to find these threads?
(and keep them going)
+1. Maybe these sorta threads are inspirational, lol!
If anyone would care to look a little further into the stocks they would notice AMD is on the rise and that AMD is also a cpu manuf so there is a little more that is done my AMD than is done by Nvidia its funny how that works. GPUs and CPUs influence AMD's stock while just GPUs influence nvidia's. If you would like you could also check GlobalFoundries on AMD's behalf i would assume that they are making a good chunk of change unluckily i have not seen what the stock symbol is for them.
However in the last 3 or so months AMD has been mainly influenced by ATi because their CPUs haven't really been adding much head-turning CPUs to their line-up (until the relatively recent Athlon II X4s), whilst the HD5000 GPUs have been getting hyped like crazy.:)

It's simple, when you have too many on stocks, you stop ordering them.

Looks like the demonic Charlie was right indeed. Where I live availability is quite poor and I mean largest e/retailer.

Fudo seems to confirm it. As much as Fudo went green lately this news can be trusted:D

On the other hand who 'd want to get GTX285 for that kind of money when you can get 5850?

dark days may lie ahead, I fear nvidia should have lowered existing board prices openly and immediately to counteract the 58XX series...

not good at all.

I think what's stopping NVIDIA to reduce their price is the limited availability of HD5000 series.

lower the prices, thus selling below profit? Is it not better to stop selling at all and keep the money invested elsewhere?

As above pointed out - availability (of new radeons) is still low so not a big thingie. I mean no bigger that it already is.

I wouldn't worry about price war that much, these are crisis times, both companies have been reporting losses, it is not the time to go cut-throat again while both companies need to make some money or future products might be delayed due to lack of R&D funds.

GT2xx vs 4xxx was a price war. Now it is time to take a breath before next big battle of titans.

Thanks to 4xxx series we got teraflop for mainstream users. I remember that within a 2 weeks after launch of new HD series , GT2xx price dropped significantly (anybody recalls refund policy?)

That said - new pricing per teraflop was formed and it somewhat sticks right now.

Agreed?

All I have to say is that I just installed a 4870x2 and my GTX280 spanks it in quite a few games. My 280 is the card that I'm going to keep.

Looking at reviews, that doesn't make sense. You must have driver problems.

I wish that was the case but my testing really mirrors this review. The card just performs awful in modded games like Oblivion or HL2 with the cinematic mod where in the Vanilla game it would normally perform better than my 280. The minimum framerates are also disappointing in other games.

It's seem like NewEgg and Zipzoomfly no longer have GTX285 and 275 in stock... These 2 are direct competition with HD5800 series in price range ($220+ and $310+). GTX260 still have alot in stock though.

Only one I've seen drop off at any stores in Australia so far is the 285, 260's 275's and 295's all still kicking, and here the 295 is better bang for buck in some stores, with the 5870 selling for 550-590 AUD and the 295's now selling at $595 as the best walk in price.
