They've bumped it for Nintendo Switch and thought "why not release it in our own package" perhaps.
Nvidia should do another Shield Tablet instead. That thing filled a good niche. I have no idea if Switch production would still be affecting that. Regardless. I feel high-end TV boxes have a harder time standing out since you can hook up a somewhat older computer in its place to do most of that. Can't quite use a laptop in place of a fancy tablet... well you can, but you'd pay for it in size and noise.

I imagine there is lag, anything wifi related there will be at 4k. Check reviews before you buy.

I was responding in general to someone earlier in the thread who stated if nothing else it would be a good audio upgrade. Too lazy to scroll back up and get actual quote for you.

Which makes your setup inferior to mine. Modi 3 beats $500 dac's in side by side sound tests I have heard, with some high end planar speakers, etc. My setup will destroy any shield and digital audio surround setup, for around similar price points.

Who said im connected over wifi ? Shield and pc are connected via cable and i've never experienced any lag. Whoever is using shield ONLY for audio upgrade missed the point of shield. And no, im sick and tired of reviews, kudos to 1% real reviewers, everything else is pure cr**.

I have two of the 2017 Shields, one for the home cinema system (65" OLED/Atmos 9.1.6) and one for the living room TV. They both have MrMC (kodi) to play UHD and HD rips from a local server.

They work great and I don't see any reason to upgrade to the 2019 version as neither of the displays support Dolby Vision.

I think so yeah, I do remember reading something about that. I'd avoid this product personally, better off just getting a little Roku stick if your TV is not a smart tv. /shrug

you can also buy 15ft DP cables to run your PC direct to your 4k tv with no lag... just get a bluetooth extender for a xbox controller or ps4 controller... there is really no reason for this product to exist imo, unless you want to play laggy over wifi 4k games streamed from your PC to your tv. no way its as a fast as a direct connection.

You don't know what you're talking about if you're saying you're better off getting a little Roku stick...

Roku is garbage, basically the worst experience to use for a person with a 'smart tv'. I have a 4k FireStick hooked up to my Roku Tv for a reason, same with my Vizio TV in my garage, same with my 82'' Samsung which is almost as bad as the Roku in terms of interface... Support for Firesticks seems to be the best in my opinion. HOWEVER, the Dolby Atmos capability of this and the 4k upscaling of this Nvidia Shield is appealing I wonder how well it even works, I've never been a big believer in upscaling personally.

Yes, my 65" has it built in as well, that's how I know it's garbage. For my 7 year old daughter it's good enough though. The UI is by far the worst that's for sure. And I have 5 Smart TVs, a Sony, two Samsung's, two Vizio's and TCL Roku ranging from 55" to 82".
