[H]ard|OCP has a very nice writeup on some of the new features released in the 77.76 series drivers. Between the new bugfixes, the new SLI AA, and new game profiles; they attempt to determine whether SLI is truly the ultimate solution for gamers. Here's a quote from the article:

Now let's talk about NVIDIA's new SLI Antialiasing mode. Much like ATI's CrossFire, this mode only works with NVIDIA's multiple video card solution, SLI. Each GPU renders a different Antialiasing sample pattern and then these patterns are combined to produce a final output. Today NVIDIA is introducing an SLI 8X AA mode and an SLI 16X AA mode.

In the slide above, you can see that GPU 1 renders 4XAA and GPU 2 renders 4XAA and combines them both making an output of 8XAA. The 16XAA mode is actually a combination of multisampling and supersampling. Each GPU renders 8xS AA and combines them to form 16XAA.
