Just looking for some input, price isn't really a consideration since I have both of them already. (unless I can sell the one I don't use)

My current feeling is the Opteron will be better for single threaded apps (I can only get the X2 up to 2.5GHz) and the X2 will be better for multi threaded apps, but all I do is surf and play games so I'm thinking the Opteron is the way to go.

Plus it's been a while since there's been a poll in here, polls are sweet!

edit: for reference the opteron is 1.8GHz 1MB cache, the X2 is dual 2.2GHz 1MB cache, the X2 goes to 2.5GHz, the Opteron has a better reputation for OCing though.

stick to the athlon x2 if you want my opinion.
sure all you do *now* is surf the web and play games, but that's only because there are no applications that use that additional core... if it was me, i'd stick to the athlon in hopes that maybe some day in the not so far away future even cooler groovier prettier heavier games/apps/whatever will appear that will allow me to use the full capabilities of the x2...
and sell the opteron....
and buy beer...
and pizza...

Good point, I'm not really thinking ahead much with the opteron.

Hehe yeah now that they have been pulled back I bet I could get a decent amount of cash for one of those babies... any takers?

i'd probably take it off your hands if i wasnt stuck with a socket 754 motherboard... hehe...
and i definantly dont have the money to spend on a new motherboard, new cpu *and* new graphics card...
and i probably wont for a while...
