I have had something like this happen in real life.

Athlon XP is going strong, doing some flash games. Someone kicks computer lightly (sitting next to me), heatsink falls off (I don't know it at the time that is came off). Room starts to smell bad, we blame person who just walked in. I smell silicon, I instantly reach for fire extinguish and bash the case side off and spray (no screws on case side for this reason). Ended well I think, with no death or burnt hairs (or people).

smoke bad i had a m8 once give me a old set up rig with out the fan running on a xp 2800+
and the smell start away i new its going 2 burn lmao but my m8 cant smell 2 good so the.

looks like the heatsink was improperly mounted and it shorted the mofset array
