overclocking a FX-8150 (Zambezi) (125W) 3.6 GHz

i have a FX-8150 (Zambezi) (125W) 3.6 GHz over clocked at 4.00 Ghz cupid cpu- z reading it at 1396.42 and 3989.76 and sometimes it will go to 4196.71 once in a while is that normal to read it up to 4196.71 when its only overcloked to 4.00 Ghz

That's the turbo kicking in- does that when some of the cores idle down.... 100% normal

Turbo comes in at 4.2Ghz when 4 or less cores are active. Stock turbo is 21x (200x 21= 4200 Mhz):

I wouldn't go over 4Ghz with your setup.... heat, power usage, etc.. begins to climb beyond a manageable state after that (check some reviews)

I don't think I would overclock at all with that setup. No cooling for the vrm's. You can fry the thing in a hurry if they get to hot. Oem HP board is not built to overclock with.

i've seen the difference when playing a game at 3.6 and 4.2 it loads faster while playing skyrim when overclocked

Yea you might see a difference but that board isn't setup for overclocking and you can overheat the VRM circuits and fry them. You have no heatsinks on them. I would be very leary of overclocking that rig.

ya i hate hp pre builds i keep it at 3.8 then 3.6 it runs just fine i wont even try to go over 4.0 i only turn it on when playing games

No overclocking on a HP board it will melt Hp boards have enough issues running at stock

you have a gt 640 GPU it would't matter if you managed to overclock it to 5GHz The gpu is gonna be the bottle neck and a pretty massive one at that ..

id pull the proc and the ram and save that and then start from there the 8150 is ... poo but its enough for some light to moderate gaming when paired with a decent gpu

then expect to spend a grand or more even at 1080 thats a tall order if you want max graphical settings across the board

i am looking to spend 2 grand for my next build but taking my time iknow some say its good to buy all at once but i want to take my time so i can get what i want
