This is about getting Patreon support for TPU, nothing else.

I’ve noticed an increase in the number of advertisers with TPU that many members have been opposed to for perceived gray market selling.

I’m not here to debate it either way, since passions run high on either side, and the mods will shut it down if that happens.

I AM here to urge members to at least consider supporting TPU with Patreon. You can do it with as little as $3 per month. This should be a no-brainer for those of you opposed to TPU having those perceived gray market sites being associated with it. If you don’t like the expense necessary to keep our site and forum running coming from advertisers you don’t like, then this is how you fix it.

I want to do this. I will talk with the person I pay the bills to (love you mum!) and see if i can spare £5 or £10 a month to contribute. I really like TPU and the community is great honestly,.and the reviews are excellent ,lots of hard work put into them. I will more than happly contribute for this high quality content. Yes i guess imma TPU fanboy now :lovetpu:

I know what your saying... but I can't bring myself to do it at the moment. Not with the odd ad policy and other... issues.

I was a $15.00 per month supporter two months prior to all that happening... and one month after. They want my support? Go back to what was. That's as nice as I can say it.

You know there are other ways to generate revenue without resorting to Patreon and not running bs ad networks. This site ranks #4700 in the US for all websites...that is a ton of traffic. Monetizing that traffic should be generating A LOT of money. How that money is handled offsite/backend...I have no idea, but maybe that needs to be looked into vs asking for cash on Patreon.

Who is in charge of Digital Sales? Who is selling this highly targeted niche traffic to outside companies. The demographics for this site and the purity of those stats should demand a good amount of money.

Well, you can never please everybody, no matter the solution. This is an alternative monetary way to support TPU that W1zzard set up. It’s all we have right now.

What about Google Marketing Platform, KenShoo, AdRoll, AppNexus...there are many more but those are the big ones. Or have you already tested those Ad Services?

Well, TPU could simply open a gadget store and sell forum badges. That makes normal payment methods feasible with minimal costs.

I opened this thread just to call awareness to the Patreon option that W1z set up. If he sets up others, I’m willing to look into supporting those too.

BTW, I appreciate people that have shown interest, as well as new supporters @64K and @Toothless! If people are aware of it, then It’s a start!

I was surprised by the apparent lack of support from the TPU community - particularly from the long-time members who frequent the site.

Overall, I think it could be of great benefit to the community if others who can spare a dime or two could chip in and help the purchase and review of the rarer, niche products or even the more budget components that are seldom reviewed anywhere. My theory is it will help out those who cannot afford the latest and greatest and find it hard to gather the resources to make an informed decision, and so on...

This kind of volunteer support won't hurt, but just isn't enough - especially in case of TPU, with a fairly small community compared to how many people visit the site. Ads are a much better solution.

@Toothless It's not automatic. It took about an hour for mine. I think W1zzard has to manually do it but I also think I saw something about a minimum $5 a month for the Supporter Badge. Did you support at $5 or more?

I think patreon is cool and all, though it could use some work and some things cleared up like the rewards. I just gotta remember that it comes out the first.

If enough support is garnered and reviews for niche or budget components become regular enough, it may help grow the community - more ad revenue and hopefully more support.

I personally see Patreon as a way to support content producers through 'unofficial subscriptions'; it's there, it's optional, but if the content keeps coming and is of great quality, I'll happily contribute.

Thank you! I feel since W1z created the Patreon, it was never profiled front and center.

I would like to see this remain open as long as possible to keep awareness of it and gain more patrons who want to support TPU.
