PC suddenly shuts down just before booting completes.

My other cpu started miss behaving this morning .
Was trying to boot it up and couldn't anymore changed the ram and sata cords several times to no avail any leads?

starts for a few seconds then switches off automatically

try a different powersupply. if its the standard stock PSU that came with that HP, its probably toast.

OEMs have a nasty habit of spec'ng machines with the least amount of horsepower they can get away with when it comes to the PSU. HP is no exception to this.

If its not the PSU, then the motherboard has probably become 'earthed' with the case.

Doesnt happen so much with newer hardware but with older hardware it tends to happen occasionally - all you can do is strip the machine and rebuild it carefully

Also, check the cooler is mounted correctly, there might not be good contact between the heatsink and the CPU

was a branded system so everything came with it

Probably all those Email Spam bot's you got loading at startup to send all your relatives the good news that a wealthy person would like to deposit a billion <local> currencies in their bank account. I think the Nigerian Service Providers install that by default when they set you up with service, right?

I want to eliminate that a temperature problem is causing this before I start looking at the PSU.
Does the system need a cleaning? Dust blocked heat sinks don't work.
Are the fans working?
Was the system recently moved? Could a heat sink have fallen off?

Boot with safe mode. Boot with one stick of RAM.. then the other. Try a different PSU. Try reseating the CPU. Check cables.

Just got a hint from a friend.since am running Windows 10 technical preview OS on it heard it had a time span. Had it elapsed?

Would run a test this way ,I would try to install back to Windows 8 just before installing the new Windows 10 ,if in the process of booting from the dvd the computer turns off again then certainty its the psu
Would unscrew it and place a replacement
