The stock one sounds like I'm piloting a 747, not using a computer.

Could anyone recommend an after market cooler that's quieter and preferably would not require an installation of a retention plate? The case is a XION Solaris XON-403.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Price is really not an issue, but would prefer under $40.

The Sunbeam Core-Contact Freezer which comes in 120mm and 92mm flavors (so you can best fit it to your case) mounts with the stock AMD bracket. That's partly why I bought it. The other reason is because it is an absolutely insane cooler.

It's so effective that you could probably run it passive if you weren't overclocking.

Oh and Don, you have made it incredibly difficult to read your posts. For whatever reason my eyes just end up on the left side of the page.:)

I use a Scythe Mugen 2 and love it, but as The Don stated the CM Hyper 212+ is DEFINATELY the bang for buck cooler at the moment.

This is a bold statement. Would you happen to have screenshots?? Extra-ordinary statements require extra-ordinary proof. :toast:

Was thinking that too, I have the DK myself and I get 28" @ 3.4 on a dualie as I'm speaking. Keeping in mind that its 17" in my room. Maybe its colder in Australia right now, anyways, these are uber great temps for a 1055t if its true, especially on a 1283 variant.

Go with the Cosair H50 or 70s if you want water cooling, no dust+ quieter than air cooler :rockout:

If you want an adventure you could vastly improve the stock cooler for about $10.

Shows $11.50 shipped for me. That fan should pop right onto the clips and away you go. If you wanted to spend about $4 more you could buy sandpaper and lap it for even better performance.

The box Phenom II heatsink is a good design but I'm convinced that a lot of the fans are either defective or simply junk altogether. Or possibly there's issues with the pre-applied thermal compound. I used mine for a few days and it was ridiculously loud, whereas the box heatsink for my Athlon II is silent. Sure the Athlon II produces less heat, but the box cooler is also much less robust than the Phenom II's.
