Ati HD 3870X2 CrossfireX Benchmark

First of all sorry for posting so much i just finished a Crossfire X Ati HD 3870X2 benchmark in 3DMark06. The score was a bit disapointing because we didn´t have access to a 2 times 16 lane PCI E mobo

. The other problem was a Intel E6600 Gonrou at 3600 MHZ also a little bottleneck but still i experienced a higher performace of about 1200 marks higher that shows even with the first Crossfire X driver (8.3) a higher performance. The score was 16912 against my single slot HD 3870X2 of 15817 the E6600 speed here was 3780MHZ so do the math over 17000 with a bottlenecked system little performance increase but still pleased. :toast:

How are you getting such high SM2 and SM3 scores? With my X2 at 918/950 I get SM2 :7916 SM3 :8976

His e8400 is at 4.3ghz and your q6600 is only at 3.1ghz. Remember that the game tests only use 2 cores and that they are at framerates where the cpu speed has a large effect.

3DMark06 tests all the cores, a Quadcore Q6600 is a double E6600 and you see a mayor difference in CPU testing so there realy is a difference in Benchmarking Dualcore and Quadcore systems.

My Q6600 is at 3.915

, But my X2 is clocked higher than hos one, by a fair amount.

It does test them all, but only on the CPU tests, the game tests are only dual threaded.

the game tests are actually single threaded not even dual.. he he

but.. 2006 with more than one 3870 card is one hundred percent cpu limited..

with two cards in crossfire its all down to how fast the cpu cores run and in the cpu test how many of them u have..

quad core will score nearly twice the cpu score a dual will and a dual will score twice what a single does.. the cpu test has nothing to do with the grafix card/cards

with two cards the game tests are now entirely cpu speed limited as well.. the faster the cpu the higher the score.. the card clocks dont matter much with two cards only the cpu speed and the number of cpu cores..

3dmark 2006 is now an utterly useless grafix card benchmark.. with crossfire its now a cpu benchmark..

sad but true.. a pair of 3870 cards are too much more it..

I meant the CPU tests i know that Quad gaming is not supported by any game at the moment :laugh:

I only looked at your previous post, but yes the orb link confirms that the cpu is at 3.9ghz.

I thought as much, Thanks for confirming it

. Since I can get 19k with my X2 at stock speeds (CPU at 3.9Ghz), That's why I'm not getting much of an improvement from overclocking the X2. Never knew it was only single threaded. So it seems the trick to getting over 20k is to have a CPU over 4Ghz. How some 2 3870s are CPU limited, but say an 8800 Ultra doesn't bottle neck so much in comparison? Do 3800s have "more raw power" all together? I know an ultra isn't faster than 2 3870s though, I was just wondering if CPU limitation is more susceptible to a multi GPU setup.

Looks like i have nothing to explain now :laugh:

Anything above 4ghz, the SM scores seem to top out (unless i overclock the gpu's come more). Anything more, im just adding to the CPU score.

But overclocking the cards and CPU helped bump my score from 18.2k to 19k..

I'll get myself confused thinking about it

Btw, i do know my CPU stresses alot more in games with crossfire than it did with a single card.

Along with the 3D mark result? I've downclocked my CPU and X2 now to make my case a bit cooler. If you want them I'll have to clock them back up and take a screen shot a bit later some time.
