Not trolling one bit sir! That PSU was a trooper! Went through 8800 GTS 640 to 8800 GTS 640 SLI to GTX 260 to GTX 285 without an issue. Like I said though, I could have just gotten a good unit. I still have pictures of that machine while deployed to iraq

Oh no, the "must be trolling" wasn't directed at you! I meant jcgeny and his post, which I quoted so as to indicate who I'm replying to. Sorry if I caused any mix-up.

Anyway, you did get a good sample, but in general, the LSP series was made by Andyson, who are capable of making a decent PSU, they just don't tend to do it too often if you don't really spur them on to do it. Andyson have a nasty habit of overestimating their PSUs by about 100W, and then Ultra did the same, so the "650" you had was more like 450. And that's in 25°C ambient. Your usage scenario probably had it max out at the 350 I spoke of. Still, thankfully, computer hardware isn't nearly as power-hungry as the PSU makers and ignoramuses make it out to be, so the LSP held up like a trooper.

Consider yourself fortunate, but I'd steer clear of Ultra in general, if I can help it.

Oh yea I probably would not buy another one due to that fact but at the time, It was the only affordable one I could get while I was deployed.

HA! no, you can go wrong with a Corsair and you would have to have some bad luck to have a bad Seasonic.

Lets face it most if not all good Corsair PSU's are Seasonic at heart although some times they cheapen them.

They use a lot of different OEM's these days. Channelwell, ATNG, FLextronics.. Do they even have new Seasonics?

Corsair AX760 and HX650 are newer models with Seasonic internals.

@OP- I've had pretty good luck with the Corsair CX500. I've had one of these running an FX-8150 at full load 24/7 for over a year- would definitely recommend as a decent budget psu :)

your mobo and vga should be dead too ,hard-drive also or near but you can check the smart status.
you can repair it with the help of :

It doesn't have to be. I saw computers surviving PSU blows, replacing it and up and running.

Seasonic made Corsair units.

As Norton pointed out the AX760 which uses the 750 KM3 inturnals. And they take advantage on how well the Seasonic 750KM3 performs and label it a platinum psu were as Seasonic keep it as a Gold.

@GoFigureItOut as you can tell, there is a lot of misinformation out there about PSU's. I will admit that I am still confused as to what is actually "needed". I will say that I've never regretted spending extra on a PSU and I consider the PSU the foundation of a PC.
This is a good read: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/t...lly-need-an-80-plus-gold-power-supply.129456/
IMHO, check out the reviews for a PSU before purchasing it. Reviews here at TPU, www.jonnyguru.com are highly recommended.
If you come across a PSU and you'd like to know who actually makes it, this database, thanks @Norton , will tell you: http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page541.htm

Get that HALE82 pretty solid unit, decent price... everything dies eventually... any of the above is good, just ignore the guy suggesting you need 850W if you have a graphics card, that is just too much....

Corsair never used ATNG (though they're a good OEM). The only new Seasonics in their lineup are AX760 and AX860 (non-"i" ones). Other new units they make are built by CWT, GreatWall, Chicony, and Flextronics.

850 w is good for mobo + powerful vga
so 650 w for a cheap
by the way , it s better to be too powerful than not enough

beside that i was looking at performance pcs psu clearance . the 680 w sli have

the 850 w has the same connectors plus one 4 pins that some mainboards use to help power the pci-e bus
http://www.performance-pcs.com/cata...roduct_info&cPath=1078_1079&products_id=24314

so below 850w you can plug one vga and the mainboard , at 850 you reach the 2 vga...at 1000 3 , and 200 more watt for 4 .
a vga card maximum power is 300 watt , but latest nvidia and ati are even more power demanding . they have hyper powerful gpu and 4 or 6 Go of ram ...soon 8 or 12...

Ahh yeah those. So is the rest of Corsairs current lineup any good? I would say yes to that.

Don't know, and to be honest if you want to make sure you get what you think your getting get it of the true maker and not some 3rd party as you never know they might start using cheaper fans along the production line for example.

Such generalizations are flawed, and there is no real need for them - what do you think reviews are for?

Here's a concrete example:
XFX's XTR series are made by Seasonic (as are all the other XFX PSUs), and they're G-series internally.
Except that XFX makes them fully modular and uses a FDB fan, whereas Seasonic's own rendition is semi-modular and uses a 2BB fan. The rest is pretty much identical.

And the kicker? XTR is cheaper than G-series in all the places I've looked!

This might work in Seasonics case, but only in Seasonics case. You can't buy ATNG branded PSU's (at least not where I live, and I just remembered it was a good Fractal Design that was made by ATNG) or Delta branded PSU's, you can't buy Foxconn phones. And Seasonic is not the only good PSU maker. It's offtracking a bit, but the amount of good PSU's right now is almost overwhelming.

Which makes me think they could change parts over time to support the lower pricing. Better be safe than sorry..

How about that one? Isn't more watts better than not enough?

Not necessarily, it's never going to hurt having more watts but what you need to go for a quality build from a reputable manufacturer, for example, a 700W power supply from alpine is not necessarily going to be better then a 500W corsair. You need to look at the amperage rating too and make sure it is high enough for any GPU's you may have.

Edit: Also keep in mind any upgrades you may be doing in the not too distant future, if you can spare a but more money for something which will future proof your build in case of additional GPU's or other upgrades then it is worth doing.

Better is a complex phrase when buying PSUs imo. Unit A has a slightly better voltage regulation than unit B but unit B is more efficient and neither of them may have the modular setup you want but unit C, which is modular the way you want it, has slightly less efficiency than A and B and modular is not THAT important and you don't have the money to go for the best of the best.. Now throw three more units in the bunch with equal performance and equal price, and well I hate shopping for PSU's.

Hmm... I looked up your PSU on the reference database and it's not certified but have a lifetime warranty if registered. The maker is ShenZhen RuiSheng Yuan and based in the USA. I only use PSUs that's certified and of good makes like Seasonic and Super Flower. CWT is supposed to be keeping up the quality and they make Corsairs but I don't trust 'em anyway. My i3 system has the CX430 and I'm praying that it don't blow.

Way I figured it, as long as you don't run your certified PSU to the max off the bat you should be ok. Remember, as your PSU ages it loses wattage and you might've got to the point that your PSU can't keep it up anymore. Always get more than you need if you plan to keep it for years.

Ultra PSUs were never very good to begin with.
Neither are their user manuals. This is from the manual for an Ultra V-Series, and it does want the user to plug in the 24-pin power connector backwards. Worse, that connector had enough slop in it that it could be plugged backwards into one cheapo motherboard (antique VisionTop Otto). The manual also showed plugging in the floppy disk connector backwards, something much easier to do.

your mobo and vga should be dead too ,hard-drive also or near but you can check the smart status.
you can repair it with the help of : http://www.hdd-parts.com/

i wonder where you saw flashes : in the monitor ?

like always have an ups and a very good and powerful psu is the best advice for this not happens
choose a platinium from this website : http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/80pluspowersupplies.aspx
500 w is good for mobo without vga
850 w is good for mobo + powerful vga
1200 w mobo plus 3-4 vga

Omg, 500w psu for a pc without a dedicated GPU?

I specialize in SFF builds and have been using 450w SFX PSU with i7 2600k, Geforce 460 (Recently replaced with 760) and 3 HDDs for years.

I've also built 2 book size PCs for my parents with 80w PSU. The spec was i3 low tpu part and 2 laptop hdds. They have been working fine for 3 years now.

i feel i ll hurt with my joke but what you say nearly sound to me like the first airplane drivers...
the first of them was only wearing clothes making them look like a fowl , they tried to fly from the eiffel tower and all died ...nowadays some are flying with airbus 780 they do not die ;']
i do not want to hurt , but nowadays cpu are able to use 130-150 w without overclocking , latest vga are using 250 300 w and more
it is very dangerous to have a psu that is overloaded : some are explosing while the contrary makes no problem at all
what is best ?....
