Hi.

I would like to know if we can make a homeserver and locate forum, webpage and cloud harddrive on a computer that have PfSense on it so that people outside home like friends and family can access it?

At idle how much percentage of load it puts on a regular P4 single core cpu?

Is there a hardware minimum requierement for this PfSense?

Thank you

Umm its not impossible but not worth the time and effort for a P4 single core. I have a P4 IPcop setup and at one point I had windows XP running IPcop in VB with my PCIx dual nic for the DHCP server / nat and then with my onboard looped back in to the switch. This made it all in one but it was too slow for file transfers but a forum would be simple.

Considering the P4's limited resources you could try building up something minimalist with a distro like Debian and only installing what you need but, I wouldn't expect it to be all that fast considering it's a P4 but it depends on what you're going to be doing as "file transfers and serving content" is a fairly broad description and doesn't enable us to give targeted suggestions as to what would be best. Are we talking video, pictures, documents.

I recommend having a decent system that has proper VT extensions (P4 is NOT going to work) and running a tier 1 hypervisor like esxi/hyper-v-server and having the VMs not rely on a bottlenecking full host OS like running them on virtualbox. be sure to, if you are going to offer wireless services through a WLAN adapter, that you should use a USB WLAN or an intel card. Onboard based (nvidia/atheros/realtek built in) will not work with some hypervisors and linux distros and may have issues with hypervisors. I recommend Intel for a wired card and consulting the PFsense recommended hardware list for the WLAN card. https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Supported_Wireless_Cards PFsense seems to be good for some onboards like atheros, however the hypervisor might not allow it to work.
