hey everyone, much like most of you I recently got the prompt to upgrade to windows 10 when it launches in the next couple of months. now my questions when the upgrade becomes avaible would it be better to do a fresh install over an upgrade install?

I would rather not do a fresh install because I have way to many files on my pc I would loose unless I backed them up and plus I don't have to go through the hassle of re downloading and installing all of my games and programs because im lazy lol, but if it would impact performance I guess I would go ahead do it but if it wouldn't affect anything I would just do the upgrade method.

the last time I did an upgrade install with on os was vista and that was on top of a freshly installed xp back in 06 so its been a long time since I have done this type of format, I normally do a fresh install of the os.

That is super lazy. That is also the worst possible reason ever.

That said there is no definitive answer. You may or may not lose programs and you may or may not lose files. No one can even truly answer this until the windows 10 RTM installer is running on your machine and tells you what if anything you will lose before you hit "Install"

hey at least I admit im lazy lol. well its more due the fact I don't have a lot of free time nowadays. I work late evenings and I'm usually very busy on my days off so I only have a few hours a week to use my pc so I don't to use a lot of that time backing my pc up and re installing everything and I don't own an ext hdd so I would have to borrow one from some one to back everything up.

and my main question was would windows 10 and my programs run much different between a fresh install or an upgrade type install?
