My Asus Crosshair MB has my HT Link multiplier set at X1, is that right? I have options up to x5. Where am I supposed to have it?

If you are not overclocking set it at x5. If you are overclocking set it at x4 and push the HTT bus speed up until it fails to boot or resets.

Yeah I'm am oc at 3.6Ghz currently. Does it harm it If i set it at x5? Does this make it any faster? Is x4 supposed to be more stable, or better for Higher oc?

If you use CPU-Z,keeping your HT-Link about 1000MHz(FSB Default=200 x 5 (HT-link)) is about right for most boards.

If you are overclocking you can set it to x3 to be on the safe side.

it should be 5 x 200 = 1000.. it can go a fair bit over or under without affecting performance..

the safe bet if the external clock (200) is raised too much would be to drop it to x 4..

trog

For some reason my HT Link on CPU-z also states that it's the same as the FSB, 225.0Mhz, any ideas's why? I have the HT Link Multiplier at x4.

look, you don't want your HT Link to be more then at most 1200 with stock voltage and plus it baiscly does nothing for performance.

In case you don't know the HT Link is Calculated by taking the HT Multiplyer which is at stock 5 and multiplying it by the FSB which is usally at stock 200 for an HT Link or 1000.

If you increase the FSB to like 250 then I would move the HT Multiplyer to 4 so you have a recommended HT Link of 1000 again.

As to why CPU-z reads your HT link wrong I don't know, check to see if you are running the latest version.

Also I am thinking about getting a new MotherBoard, would you recommend that one to me???

So far It's been real good and I've had it for about 6 months now. It's so awesome because you can do almost anything you want to anything on your motherboard. I would recommend it to anyone that loves overclocking. :D
