8GB of VRAM is what I call future proofing. GTA V is the only game I know of that could come close to using it all, but FO4 is coming in November, and I'm sure it could use a good part of it too. As DX12 games begin to land, we'll see more use for that extra VRAM. Of course, you could just wait for the Nano like I am doing just to see what the landscape looks like in a couple of weeks.

Farcry 4 poked 4GB while I was playing it last night in surround. Dropping to 1080p only reduces usage by 400-500MB.

I think "like for like" you are possibly right, however I bought my 290X 2 weeks ago and it was significantly cheaper than the 390, in fact pretty much what a 280X cost 2 months ago, I am not suggesting that you can get a 290X for 25-30% cheaper than a 390 everywhere but if you can and $ matter it may be the better option.


i have seen 290x for around £200 which is just insane for anybody not wanting to go 4k soon.
