€398=$400= a fills the gap between GTX570 and GTX580?
€496=$500= better than GTX 580?

What is AMD going to do to fill up the gap between 6870 and 6950? With 6930?

Actually you're a little off

398.00 EUR = 527.185 USD
496.00 EUR = 656.965 USD

These price's sound a little more realistic. I wouldn't be suprised if the 6990 reaches to at least $800-$900 USD range. I know it will be worth it :rockout:

I have noticed that you are starting to creep up the Graphics card hierarchy. It started with what, 8400GS? and now its 9800GT. Wouldn't be long before you start looking at GTX 780's and things like that when they are released :p. Best cards requires engineers to think out of the box, improvements will trickle down to the budget cards.

It started with the radeon 7000 in 2005  , or you could say pci cards in general and low end computers. Now i am using a intel i3-530 for my dual core and a amd 1035t six core with a gts 250 and 9800gt. I really don't see myself buying a card that requires 2 pin, one pin is good enough. I could be wrong, but i really doubt it. Because my 9800gt can handle anything i throw it with ease, so can my gts 250, so you really don't need high end cards, unless you game at extreme resolutions, which i don't. 1280x1024 is where i been at for the last what 10 years of gaming, and i plan to go down to 1280x720 once i start using lcds. 1280x is what i am keeping.

But hey nothing wrong with high end cards, i figure if you pay over 300 bucks for card, it better be able to play any game at any resolution just fine. :)

Direct conversion that would be the case, but remember Europe have a lot of taxes and shit like that, and it generally inflates the cost by a lot. For example (*does a quick search*), cheapest 5850 you get is about $179 (sapphire with rebate), and cheapest we get is xfx black (ebuyer) at £160 or about €180.

Also going direct conversion from GBP to USD it's $250 and euro to USD $240, trying to guess at american prices from prices in europe using direct conversions does not work.

Geez, that's an insane price tag, if it really does release with a price tag that high i have no choice but to disregard the performance, as i just can't spend that much on a single PC component.

If i worked at Goldman Sachs though, then these cards would probably be first on the list.(if the performance matches the price)

But why would you need a new v card though. Although i do agree it's a lot of money though.

I'm sure things could be different now but what if the 6950 is $350, was that not how much the 470 was when it came out? and yes i admit i don't know when you bought yours or for how much I'm just trying to give an example as the direct conversions from euro to dollar are way high as i and Fourstaff pointed out with the cheapest us 5850 being $180 and the cheapest uk 5850 being $250.

I agree though they are more expensive than what i expect from AMD but i would hope that's a sign they are dam powerful.... even if my plans have changed and i can't buy one or anything at the moment :laugh:

Says someone whose main aim is to increase his epeen, just look at his rig! :p Value per performance is not going to be there and you know it.

Lol. We will just have to wait for the reviews. But i think the GTX580 will get kicked in the ass by the HD6950 IF Price=Performance. :rockout:

epeen definitely except for one part. A gtx 260? I think it renders your rig infertile regardless of the epeen then :)

I was running dual HD5970 4GB cards till about a week back. :p Now i'm using my Physx card till i buy a new card. Had to get rid of my HD5970s as the demand and value was dropping.

1000$ for what?!!? Console ports?? Ones that you can play BETTER with a 200$ PS3?!?! Hahahaha!

If the cards do offer such performance, i think by the next gen of graphic cards (GTX6xx and HD7xxx series), Microsoft and Sony will be forced to make a better console to keep up to PC.

Of course you should know that. But that also means that you should know better to post the number of shaders bold. :wtf:

OMG u still dont get it...

I posted it as a reference to the 1600 Shaders of HD5870 compared to 1560 in HD6970

Then I'll also point out they are using a new configuration for their shaders, instead of 1+4D(1 shader with special functions, others lesser), they are adopting 2+2D, not only that, they are doubling the number of tessalators(each SIMD unit had 1 individually) per SIMD to 2.

6950/70 is on pre-sell with a local vendor here in the phils too. http://www.tipidpc.com/useritems.php?username=pchub

For the first time, I think we got better prices :p

6970 for 21,000 pesos (~$480usd)
6950 for 16,000 (~$365)

man, am just 4000 php short of money for that sweet 6950 :(

Edit: Who am i kiddin, this'd be overkill for 1080p anyway (not to mention my system screams BOTTLENECK) :p

I am really confused right now. Are you comparing the 1560 shaders of the 6970 to the 1600 shaders of 5870 in the first post? Or are you comparing the 6970 to the GTX 580? You should re-explain it for a slow brain like mine.

What I said (and meant) right after your first post is that your post is completely useless because it does not have anything useful in it other than a link and some numbers, and that is in no relation to the quoted message in the post (about beating GTX 580).

Side note: I don't care what fairy dust they use in whatever graphics card, the only important things to me is performance/price, along with the power consumption and actual performance.

so according to that
cayman = 389 square millimeter with 2.64 billion
and
barts = 255 square millimeter with 1.7 billion

anyone care to do the math? I'm a bear math is not my strong point:laugh:

so its basically double bart, so i expect it will have double the performance too

here here and here say 2015 for the next xbox

It may not be 2015 when it comes out but its going to be years away still :(

Game devs won't stay that long. They will make better graphic games for PC and the console games will look shit. It's just like the time when EA released NFS Most Wanted for PS2. Had the shittiest graphics and the PC one was fabulous at that time. And that was back in 2005 when the PS2 was like 3yrs old.
