Today i wanted to add an extra pair of speakers to my system. After the upgrade i was using just the ones incorporated in my monitor connected to the green output. I went in the Control Panel and found out surprisingly that i cannot retask any output to front speakers/headphone from center/sub/rear/side/line in or whatever. The chip on my mobo is ALC 892 and my old mobo had an older chip, some ALC 88x that allowed me to do anything with any of the ports. I read that on the 892 there are 3 ports with headphone amp so at least those should be able to be retasked, but i had no success. Drivers tried so far are 2.65 and 2.71. Everywhere are discussions about such issues but nowhere is a concludent solution apart from some registry mods that are my last resort. This thing is purely stupid, why remove such a feature from hard/software when it is used by many.

I was trying out those newer realtek drivers out just a few days ago and lost options to do 5.1..

Maybe install the realtek drivers from the mobo manufacture site and hopefully they will work for you correctly

I am trying to, the oldest i can find is the 2.65 on the mobo site the realtek one is newer and both lack these options. And i have deleted the driver for my old mobo so i cant salvage an older version from there either.

I don't know how but the registry hack made it work as expected, but also made the retask options appear for the jacks it had been applied to. This is the link I followed: http://www.reaper-x.com/2012/02/13/h...d-jacks-ports/
