I have had the 9500 and the 9700. Great coolers, nice looks. I think the mounting is fine and no worries. Be sure to orient the cooler to blow out not up.

thanks for the advice, I'm really starting to lean towards the Zalman . . .

curiosity SK and driver - how smooth is the bottom of the hsink? Is it in need of lapping right out of the box, or does it have a decent finish to it? Only reason I ask is the claim that the Thermal has a mirror finish to the sink - sorry, I'm a bit too lazy to lap my own heatsinks if I don't have to

But still, I might forego that little discrepancy . . .
