Seriously ... I have never had so much problems in my life with a software ...

so I had it working at one time. (a few weeks ago)
I created some port forwarding to it, updated the port # to be a little safer
I updated the registry with it
I created a firewall rule
I think I turned everything on Avast off enough to get it work. I have disabled it completely in testing

I have a beacon to get my ip for me so I know what it is ..

I have run out of things to try and get this working again.

2 days ago I connected for about 10 seconds and it kicked me off and since then I have not been able to get back on it.

R u on private or company internet?

Bcs if u r connecting from a private to a private or from company to a private connection just use TeamViewer than it's free, i do that when i am at work to my computer at home and it works fine and been doing it for years even from my iphone and tablet.

Company internet to my home network ... sometimes hotel internet to my home

I will look into this Team Viewer ... just as safe and secure as anything else?

EDIT: Just installed it ... should I do the install option of only connecting to this computer? or do I need basic install? I will never use the server to connect out. How safe is it to just leave on all the time for my home computer so I can always connect while I am at work?

If you are having so much trouble with RDP it might actually be your companies or home routers blocking the port. the former might be harder for you to get changed. I would swap back to what is it 3389? and try again.

Teamviewer works great. The install really just installs the same program no matter which way you install...just the setup process starts differently after install. But you need it on both the workstation you want to connect to and the one you're using. I setup the one you're connecting to to setup connecting to the computer. You don't need to have an account to make this part work, just save the ID, and create a secure password. You however, will need a free Teamviewer account on the system you plan to use for connecting to other workstations...but this isn't a big deal and its free.

Teamviewer uses secure methods for transmission so don't worry too much there, and if you use secure passwords, then even if someone obtains your PC's ID, you shouldn't have any issues with them getting in that I've been aware of. I prefer to use version 9, 10 had too many damn popups and I haven't tried 11 because of the sour taste that 10 left in my mouth... 9 is good, solid and fast...I may try 11 at some point soon just to see how it fares.

I use Teamviewer to connect to my servers (when I'm not messing with RDGateway), near and distant family PC's, etc. Works great...and if you have Linux machines on your network and don't want to mess with different GUI's and apps to make them work with RDP, then Teamviewer is a good, free way to go. Teamviewer is probably one of the best free options out there for minimal setup fuss and confusion imho. VNC takes more work, but is another option though you'll need to know IP addresses and do some forwarding there as well.

I agree with @Solaris17 that you might need to check with your companie's IT department to make sure the issue isn't on their end, and also recheck the home router as well. I agree with swapping back to the default port of 3389 as well for RDP.

Meraki systems manager is better it will work on any connection and it also even works over hotel wifi, captive portal types while teamviewer is blocked or degraded. meraki systems manager uses a nice vnc implementation vs RDP like most other clients. it also has some nifty geofencing, and client tracking stuff as well and does not need to be configured for unattended access. TV needs to be configured to do so.

Windows 10? I'm experiencing the same. Could be that the account has no password set.

Thanks for the great explanation. I installed on both comps and was connected to home pc in about 5 mins from clicking download. Crazy simple.

I took a quick glance at this as well. This looks extremely powerful with all that it can do. I will need to mess with this when I get more time this weekend.

Nah not yet. Too scared to go to 10 for now on my server. I hear pled has a lot of issues still with it. So I am win7 on both.
