replacing wireles card in laptop, USB or wireless card

i need to replace the wireless in my G74sx as its very unreliable and drops signal alot. I am wondering if a card like this http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_1048_1050&item_id=034079 Intel N450 Centrino Ultimate-N 6300, PCIe Half Mini Card Wireless Adapter or a USB adapter would be better.

Im fine with installing a new card if thats the better chioce as i've looked it up on ROG forums and its apparently very simple and easy to do. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The internal PCI-E card will (at least in my opinion) be far superior. Not only is that specific card a very good performer, you also wont have to deal with an external solution that takes up an USB slot and can be a bit of a hassle to use, especially on the move. Furthermore using the internal slot will probably mean a better wireless reception since you'll be using bigger antennae( not a given though), and while i doubt you'll be able to effectively saturate your USB port with a wireless stick, PCI-E is still the better interface out of those two aswell.

One thing you have to check though: your current PCI-E wifi card might be full height, while the one you linked is half height. Sometimes this means you need a sort of bracket to correctly screw in the half-sized card. You can easily check this in advance however, and even if the current one is full sized, you might still be able to fit in that new card without much of a hassle.

after googling i've found that its an Atheros half height card http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...Bluetooth-Wireless-Card/706673_647054223.html the only place i could find a pic of it. So it should be simple to replace then

Indeed! The only things left in your way then are the bottom plate of the laptop, 2 screws holding the card down, and disconnecting the 2 antennae cables .

As you said yourself, very simple to do

Intel cards typically work better when using a PCI-E. They got less hassles. I wish Amped made those tho

If i was to replace mine i would gt a internal INtel one, 1 bing because the intel ons are good even the cheap onees don't do bad and less hassle + keeping a usb port fre which some one else said.

Depending on how your laptop is made the internal card should have a antenna though the screen of the laptop too
