Sapphire 3870

hello, i plan on Crossfiring later on this year. would the Sapphire 3870 be good enough? play games like Crysis, Fallout 3, Farcry 2, Etc. if you could recommend a better Card please let me know. idk if my Mobo can take Dual-Slotted Cards (looks like it can or can't lol).

i plan on changing my PSU out soon. i have a 600W Corsair.

Edit: buying one 4850 for now. waiting on my friend to give me his 600W PSU later on. cheers!

EDIT: Dual slot cards wont be an issue with that board.

Well by the looks of the mobo it can handle two dual slot GPUs.
But I don't know how two 3870s perform in Crysis and FC2. On what settings/resolution do you plan on playing?

The 3870 is a good card, huge upgrade compared to your 8600GT, but the 3870 is two years old, you can buy a ATI 4850 for $160 on newegg or a GTX 260 for $200 and they will perform much better

Save the rest of your money for a CPU upgrade next year

Edit:

Crossfire isn't wise in this situation, a single 4850 would perform better than two 3870s, and it would be cheaper too

Indeed, I would recommend a ATI 4830 or even a 9800 GT (non GTX+) over a 3870

Dont worry about your CPU at the moment, with that overclock its more than enough to game at high detail, take that from me, I've got a 3800 X2 @ 2.8 GHz and a Nvidia 9600 GT yet I can get upto 80 FPS in Tombraider Underworld @ high detail and 1440x900

The AM3s are gimmicks right now, hold off for atleast another year on the CPU and buy a Phenom 9950 or Phenom II. We are in a period where CPU doesn't help gaming performance.

CSS is very easy to run, it runs on 5 year old computers, Left4Dead and and Dawn of War should run like a breeze on a 3870, but if you want a rig that is going to play Crysis @ high detail and resolution, and you want peace of mind that the next generation of games will run decently e.g. Alan Wake, StarCraft then you need something beefier.

Price to performance ratio, I'd go with the 4830 or 4850

GTX 260 would be the fastest though, but its expensive.

I'm a bit iffy. The 4830 can be had for $99 opposed to $134. $35 difference

Also $20 more can get you a 4850, in comparison to the His 4830
