Who do i love??

DOLF is who i love.

Thank you once again for your utility. It solved what i had been trying to do manually for 5 hours and under a minute! Although it was quite difficult to find. There should really be a sticky or link on the main pages somewhere pointing to your utility. PCI-E users can suck it.

Thanks again... and keep up the good work!..

This thread going on how many months???

I have a question about the drivers for the X800 GTO. From reading this and Newegg's feedback on the card, some have said that they get different performance based on whether they're using the ATI Catalyst drivers or the Omega drivers. Is this true in having a difference in performance, and is one more reliable/less problematic than the others? I ordered this card last week and I'm just trying to figure out which driver I should look to. Thanks for your time.

Hi Dolf (and others =),

I was wondering if you could check my fuses for a R480 x800 GTO, I know it's been stated that most are lasercut, but because of comparing my VGA CPU physically to pictures and advice I see on sites like http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/827/2/page_2_modding_procedure/index.html and among other rumors of being able to unlock the pipelines, I just wanted an experienced and professional opinion. Many sites show pictures of the physical card of the R430, where you can see the lasercut (whether or not you have it by just inspecting the physical card). I haven't been able to find anything physically for the different R480 to be able to judge, and I dont know how to interpret the fuse data to see whether it's possible or not. Could you please look at my data and give me your opinion? Thanks.

Chris

P.S. I have the red AGP card, bought last week off newegg with a L at the end of the product number (which I don't know the meaning of, maybe just that it's not OEM)

Hi everyone. I flashed my x800gto sapphire agp card to unlock the 16pipes. I re-installed my OS, now i can't install the cat/drivers. I'm useing omega ones atm. I'd like to be useing the ati ones instead. I have tryed to re-flash the card to install the drivers again. no luck. I have a r430, 0x554f. If anyone has the answer to getting the drivers to install i'd be greatful. If you need any info that i have left out let me know. Thanks

Also your SubVendor ID and SubSystem ID are needed. Also what exactly is your card AGP or PCI-E, R430 or what?

I did some searching and found your tut, Dolf, and your CD files. I've made the cd. flashed it. still can not install the drivers made from ati. the error i get is.

"Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software."

Thats the error from the latest driver from ati.4.10. I downloaded from here then tryed ati site. The 4.6 cat/driver. gives me an IO=0 should=1 or something of the like. I get that it dosen't see my card as a true ati card. So can i force a install? or am i stuck with omega drivers? Thanks

X800 GTO mod to 16 pipes and OCed Crashes

I have an X800 GTO modded to 16 pipelines and overclocked. I did the modding using Ati flashing utility (the one that you burn into a bootable CD). It is running on catalyst 6.8
as reported on CCC and 5.5+ as reported on AtiTool (version 0.24). When i attempt to play FS2k4 or FS2k2 or BOBII afew seconds to a couple of minutes after i am in the game the computer crashes with the following symptoms:
  • screen and sound stuck on a frame or
  • a sound statering in a quick rythm for a second and then black screen or
  • black screen with no signal while all hardware are running or
  • the latest is stacked blue rectangles in columns from left to right o the screen

I saved all crash reports. Please let me know if you need them.
Attached are 2 screenshots of my ATItool:

Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

Dear Dolf:

I do not mean to be rude but the ATI flash utility on the CD offered that option. Being unfamiliar with all of the technicalities i assumed that this was a valid option for my card. Mind you i did make sure that my card was a modable one on the basis of a post, wich featured photographs that identified the correct card. It is also important to note that my card is cooled by an Arctic Cooling Silencer 5 (Rev. 2) compatible with ATI X800 (R430) and ATI X850 (R480) AGP/PCIe. I was wondering if the problem is due to the PSU or the voltage supply to the card or something else. Having read some of your posts i do trust that you could and hope that you would help me find out what my options are. As far as i understand from your reply one of my options is to use the ATIflash cd and choose the option that opens 16 pipelines without overclocking. Is that correct? Thanks.

Hey Dolf:

FYI i did an Everest report and saw this at the bottom:

Hey Dolf:

I took the time to rearange the PSU cables in the computer. Now the card is on one feed on its own. The second feed powers the hard drive, floppy, and DVD, a SATA cable powers a SATA drive in my system. So i think we could sfely eliminate a faulty cable installation for the X800 GTO. The extra fans are powered by a seperate fan-only feed. I will test the setup again later on. In the mean time i am looking forward to your replies. Thanks.

A small update here:

I just tested the card's behavior on BOBII. I stayed in the game for almost three times as long as before and then "wham" VPU error report and could not recover from being stuck. So no joy with hooking up the card on its own power feed. Thanks.

Theseas, OC BIOS in the Flash Utility does't mean that your card will work with even 400MHz core. Most of R430 cores can work stable with 16 pipes and 400MHz. But not all of them can handle 420MHz. It should be tested before to flash the OC BIOS. You have to find that your overclock is stable under full load for min. 10 minutes and the max. core should be 430MHz (minimum) in order to flash with 420MHz core BIOS. For the memory is the same but the difference between the max. and the BIOS value should be 10-15MHz.

Dear Dolf:

Is there a reliable method for testing the card?

Should i reflash down to 16 ipes no OC? or
Should i just back the sliders to say 400 / 415 to begin with?

Thanks

Dolf,
I reflashed the card back down to 16 pipelines and no OC. I tried again in BOBII and i get a VPU recover error again. I am of course very dissapointed *(i will try fs2k4 / 2 as well). Does any one else have this kind of difficulty with this card ? It had this problems even before the modalthough not as acute. In fact the computer had this problem even with the old card which was again an ATI 9250SE (the lowest quality). Again any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks.

As I told you test with ATITool first. It could be bad pipe which can't be fixed. If you have copy of the original BIOS post it here.

Dolf,

I am attaching the original bios which i currently flashed back on the card.

I tried to test the card and saved a log of the test. The test resulted in a crash as well (every attempt to test the card in fact did): the screen went black as if there was no signal although all the hardware were running.

I am at a loss here. :banghead:

Any help even if someone suggests that i use an ax on the card would be appreciated. :respect:

An other symptom, this with ATItool 0.24: on instances will give me an error that there is no graphics card on the computer.

Is the AGP port that is at fault? I looked in the BIOS and did not see anything about AGP.

Also i read in another forum that any catalyst version past 6.2 changes some settings (i think its voltages) on OCed and Piped cards back to the original stock settings and that causes the card to fail. I have catalyst 6.8. could this be it? :(

Thanks for all your suggestions so far.

Ok. It's a Sapphire, and I got it from Newegg, so I'm pretty sure it's really R480. So stock cooling should be sufficient to oc it to 500 core?

Ok, should I use the trixx oc utility from sapphire, or ATITool to oc it?
