Damn I want one just for the sake of having a drive laying around... or for the project I plan on doing over the summer.

Tempting... perhaps I could buy one, sell my raptor and make a profit or at least break even? Are they fastor than the old SATA 1.5 raptor x?

Only faster in read / writes, RaptorX makes a million times better Windows drive. I owned a 150 GB RaptorX and a 7200.11 500 GB. Windows was way faster with Raptor, 10.000 RPM over 7200. You could buy it as a secondary drive though. Keep your Raptor as main drive.
